Glad I found ya'll
I've been skulking around the forum for some time and thought it time to sey hello. I have an 85 SS DJ and would like a Sub LV. I've heard that Rolex has made the LV a permanent offering. Is this true? If so, will that make it easier to get a discount from an AD? Thanks in advance. Great resource.

The LV is currently still in production, but in limited numbers.
Nobody knows when it will be discontinued, but some are speculating next year when Rolex more likely than not goes to a ceramic bezel for the Sub. As far as discounts, highly unlikely. However, it does not hurt to ask if you can find one. Most grey market dealers are still selling them at a premium and most ADs are still holding them for thier best customers or those who throw a little cash around. Good luck. |

Welcome to TRF. Glad you came out of the closet and joined the fun here.
The LV is a permanent part of the Rolex line-up. That is, as permanent as any part of their offerings can be. They should be readily available at most ADs.

thanks for the responses. I've been hearing about the ceramic dial on some of the sport watches. Any guess as to why the move to ceramic? Thanks.

Hi Carlton,
Welcome to TRF. Ceramics are supposed to be extremely tough and durable. These bezels have been specially heat treated to mind-blowing temperatures of 1500ºC. Rolex is going futuristic!!

Welcome!
There has been a lot of confusion regarding the LV. The reference 16610LV was made beginning in 2003 as special Submariner to commemorate "50 years of the Submariner. It was never a "limited production" item, but rather a regular production watch albeit one that was/is made in far fewer numbers than the standard 16610. Rolex chose to fit a maxi-dial and minute hand as well as green bezel insert to distinguish this watch as a commemorative piece. During it's run the reference has had a couple different dial fonts as well as shades of green in the insert. Whether and for how long the LV remains part of the Rolex line up is anybody's guess. It does remain a watch that evokes strong feelings one way or the other. I, for one, like the watch...a lot! |

Welcome to TRF rm,
Your DJ is a fine watch to hang onto. The LV is still popular so I wouldn't expect much of a discount, if any. I'd love to have one, but I would just change the bezel for a black one I would wear..you know...different strokes.. |

Welcome to TRF!
In the beginning, in 2003, the "LV" was considered to be a "Limited Edition", but in fact it never was. But there are made fewer LV's than regular Subs.
