First Rolex, first post, introductions!
Not sure if introduction posts are the norm, but it seems a friendly enough place, so I figured since I've been lurking around so much, might as well join up and join in!
I just received my first fine watch from my family as a graduation gift (I'm a doctor! Yay!) . . . I must say, I was shocked... they brought me all over to look at different styles and makes, but the only ones who kept my eye were Rolex's. I felt guilty as hell after seeing the prices, so I gave up and decided I didn't need a fancy watch. ...Two days later, my father thought he'd give me one last push and brought me to an authorized Rolex dealer. They happened to have been overlooked in our search, so their inventory was completely unknown to me. The second I walked in, I saw the standard fare of submariners and datejusts, but the ones that always caught my eye were the daytonas. My dad, knowing this, walked us over to the daytonas and asked me if I saw anything I liked. I did, but told him that this was too expensive a gift. He explained that this wasn't so much a gift as an heirloom, something I can give to my child once I'm in his position, and apparently I'd understand the need to mark a special occasion with something I'd never forget when I become a father. So my father covered up the prices and told me to choose. I resisted and told him that I knew how much they cost from memory, and he told me not to worry, I'm not walking out without a watch, so I better choose one I love. I yielded and narrowed it down between two: A SS Daytona with Black dial, or a WG Daytona w/ leather strap with Meteorite face. I loved them both, but leaned more towards the meteorite. . . couldn't love the price though . . . Thus, practicality made me gravitate towards the SS. I think my father sensed this, and he told them to box up the meteorite. I was awestruck and upset at the same time. I had the exact watch I wanted, but thought I'd never get, but couldn't get over how effortlessly my father purchased it. He asked if I was happy, and, still in shock, I eeked out a meager 'very' response. Then he told me I'd understand when I'm older. . . and if it made me feel better, then I'd owe him :P So I figure, this is long enough for an introduction. TL;DR: Hey all! |
