The infamous .. "My name on the Daytona list"
Here's my experience, from both the ADs I got my Daytonas from.
Both said the same ...... "We have many names on the list" They decide who they want to sell it to.There is no order.Period. If you come across as an enthusiast/someone who may buy more Rollies in the future ~ You have a chance ... If you come across as a flipper/quick buck maker ~ You are dead ... Getting a Daytona,is not an exact science, its not even an art(Perhaps a touch ....).Its more luck, than anything else. |

I agree. Last October when I made the decision that I wanted a SS Daytona, I visited my local AD's and then called several across the US. I then contacted via e-mail an AD outside the US that I had purchased a Rolex from several years earlier while on vacation. I said in the e-mail that I was a previous buyer and planned to visit there again soon. I inquired about the availability of a SS Daytona and within days got a reply that a shipment from Rolex was inbound and that there would probably be a SS Daytona included and they would hold it for me. Within two weeks, I got notice that it had arrived and I picked it up that weekend. Actually, I had my choice of black or white dial and I chose black. The other one was spoken for and the buyer had no preference. As to my local AD, they put me on a list and told me back then that they would probably have a SS Daytona by Summer. It didn't happen yet but I'm still in touch. If it's a white dial, I'll keep it. If it's black, I won't.

My AD has no "list". He does not even like to get them in because he knows people are just flipping them to make money. So I expressed my interest in one.... He made a call to a personal friend at Rolex NY and 26 days later I had mine at msrp and no tax!!!

I'm amazed how many people have found them in such a short amount of time. I want to roll my eyes when I hear an AD salesperson talk about 5 - 7 year waiting lists, only for the very best VIPs, need to have bought lots of jewelry and rolexes before they would put you on the list, blah blah...
They go so overboard with it - I would respect it a lot more if they just said yes they are hard to come by but we do get some occasionally. |

I was at an AD few months ago and asked for the availability of an SS Daytona. They claimed to have it in stock and the retail is SG$20,000 thereabouts. (can't recall the exact $$). |

Well Blue Bull, Let's just say I enjoy spending my well earnt money and if that by some chance gets me a ss daytona so be it. I have never gone out of my way to get one. As for your times, we are not all so fortunate. I have only been interested in daytonas for approx 3 months. Before this I had no interest in them.
So peace to you. |

guys relax lol.
anyways, if you are already planning on spending the money, then it will be easier to get. If you just want to buy one at list, it will be tough, but not impossible. I would keep buying them if I could, but 1 black and 1 white has been hard enough to source. |

Yes, I guess that is true, Chris
My AD showed me the SS Daytona list. 18 people were on that list, but not me. I never asked to get on the list but just phoned him and asked if I could get the next SS Daytona coming in, and he said yes. After 5 months I got it. I guess the AD's sell the SS Daytonas to whom they WANT to sell them to.

Bo, you are a good customer and have secondary influence to other potential buyers. That is how you get on lists. Not by asking for it, or trying to get an SS as first purchase from an AD.
