Is it possible to get SS Sub under 4k
Last month I bought my first Rolex, 16613 Blue Dial. I am now really wanting the SS version to go with it. What do you think? Could I get one under $4,000?

It's may be possible but I doubt it. Most are in the $5k range. Occasionally you'll see one in the $4.5k range usually a ND. And RSC charges $600 for a service.

I haven't seen many under the 4k price point. You really do get what you pay for in this market and I'd recommend saving a few more bucks to avoid the hassle.

is it possible to hold your breath for 5 minutes under water?
ok jokes aside i guess if you found one from a close friend and he was doing you a favor by selling it to you. or perhaps you managed to find some poor sap who was selling it at a garage sale or second hand store and they had no idea what they were doing. |

They can be found but you probably wouldn't want one in that condition. Save a few dollars and get one in good condition.

That's what I figured. Saw one last year for $3,500, it wasn't in the best of shape, but still kicking myself for not getting it.

4k cieling...
I looked for one last year, but there was a 4k limit, especially from a store. I found this for just under 3,900, though with taxes it was 4,100 out the door with boxes, manuals, cloth and with a 2 year service warranty. It's a 16800 (1984)...

I sold one in the last few weeks that was a no date with inner box and papers, but it was in rough shape and I was under $3500.

As someone once said, condition, condition, condition. While you may find a SS Sub in the low $4,000 range, you're better off looking for something in better condition . For the cost of a full service at RSC, $700 plus parts, you can add that to your budget price and get closer to getting a nice watch as now you've got $4,700 for one. Enjoy looking as it's part of the fun.

2 or 3 years ago, I picked up a 14060 for about $3,000 and it came with an extra, and brand new oyster. Sold the new oyster for a $700. The watch was a mid-90's in excellent condition.

Yes, it is possible. Patience will get you the deal you want. Couple of months ago, I got a 16610 with SEL for under 3700. There is no way you can find the price on the forums since people are well informed. Best bet is eBay. I know a lot of people would tell you to stay away but if you know what you are doing, there are MAJOR DEALS to be had on eBay.
Some other deals I got on eBay... Rolex Air King 14000 for 899 Omega Speedmaster Professional 3570.50 for 1200 Rolex GMT Master TT 16753 for 2000 Rolex DateJust 16234 for 2000 Rolex Submariner ND 14060 for 2700 Panerai 112 for 3300 All prices are USD. |

I too would save up a bit more and get yourself something in the 5-5500 range. It will be in dramatically better condition and newer and well worth it in the long run. Just my .02

Yeah, I watch SS 16610 prices like it's my job. I've seen a couple under 4k, usually not serviced, without box and papers or in rough shape. Keep searching mate, you'll find one. There's some actually just under 5k here on TRF.

Thanks for all the info guys. I looked at one today I had to pass on. The dial was very faded almost brown looking. I think I will save a little more at get newer and better shape watch. I've looked at eBay, but not very comfortable with it.

While Rolex service centers might charge $600 for a service, it is closer to $750 for a service. A service from a competent watchmaker is substantially less than $600.

I bought a serviced A series 16610 from a private seller near the end of last year for exactly $4K. Best deal ever IMO. I have yet to see something like that come through ever since.
