Interesting pricing on Rolex...1999-2012

Yesterday I was cleaning up my "watch information" area, and found some 1999 catalogs with pricing.

It was very interesting to see that price for YG models has changed little 15 to 20%) in 13 years, while SS models have doubled and tripled in the same time.

That is smart marketing, SS is cheaper, so rise the price like crazy and make larger profits on that line, which happens to be Rolex biggest seller.

Just my 2 cents on a Sunday morning.

While I have no reason to dispute you claims, gold was about $275 an ounce in 1999 so I can't believe the price of a gold watch is only 15-20% higher, now...

this is the evolution for a lot of different Rolex models since 1989 till today
Prices are in euro

Price evolution Rolex - all references

Strange, When I look at the price of cars, i don't think they rose 300% in 22 years.
Back than ( 1990) a Mercedes 190 was not 1/3 of the cheapest C-class today

Well back in 1982 the 6263/5 Daytona was around £800 and far cheaper than Sub, SD, GMT, and even the Oyster Quartz how times have changed.

Capitalism can do funny things with prices. I'm not surprised in the least.

Being a sub owner I love the thought but this can't be sustainable, can it? So when I'm 65 years old my sub should be worh right around 40,000 USD.

This chart will blow your mind. It shows the list prices from 1970-2012. If I only had a time machine. LOL!
My 1655 Explorer II cost $386 in 1973
My 6263 Daytona cost $695 in 1979

So if I buy 1000 subs now and sell them in 2041 I'll have over 29 million euro ..... ....... of course I'll be 87 years old and likely drooling down my bib by then but I'll have a rocking nurse to feed me the strained peas.

Yes , assuming you have 6 million euros today to buy the 1000 subs... In which case you could afford the hot nurse today already ;)

Inflation. Think back 40 years what a house cost and what that same house would sell for today. It is all relative. As prices go up over time so do incomes. The key to the whole thing is to make sure your income grows at a faster rate than inflation.

Slightly more than inflation in that a sub would be $600 allowing for inflation and based on a price of $70 in 1955 which I read a while back was the price back then. I'd settle for that kind of wage rise.

It's a far greater increase than inflation.
