Anniversary Submariner

Hi,

My AD just called, they have a 50th Anni. Submariner in stock. I was thinking about buying it as an investment. What do people think?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!!!

Have a good day!

Well, there have been made a LOT of LV's so I don't think it will become a great investment piece, even if it were discontinued. Maybe it will become a great collector's piece in many years to come but not in foreseeable future IMHO.

You should buy the LV because you like its looks, and if it gets an investment piece, then it is all the better

Investment?

You'd be better tossin' the $5k into a CD; trust me!

20 years later at 4% is $11,083.57. Very questionable if the Rolex would bring that.

Depends on how you define investment.

If you're in it to make money, there are lot's of better and less risky ventures.

If your in it to have a watch that is unavailable at what you paid for it in a decade or so...right on..

I would only buy a Sub LV if you like the watch and want to wear it and use it or want it as part of a permanent collection. Buying a watch for investment purposes is not a good idea.

Leopardprey nails it. Buy it because you love it and will wear it. It is only a watch after all.

I would agree with buying the watch because you like it. In fact that's the only reason to buy any watch. Buying for investment implies some type of stable return. No watch can promise that. Should the LV be discontinued at some point I think the value will go up.
I've read all kinds of posts how the 16710 will go up and this is reference that had a blue million made.
What will affect the value of the LV are the same factors that affect the value of any watch--rarity and desirability. The LV isn't particularly rare, but still a bit hard to find in some areas. Future collectors will asses desirability. We have to wait and see. In the mean time wear it and enjoy it.

My friend saw an LV on display and asked me the same thing. My answer was that it's not a good investment. The LV may hold its value better than average, but I don't see it appreciating greatly in the next few years.

But it if you like it and if you plan to wear it.

In time, it'll probably go up in value. But I think thats in a couple of decades.Buy it to wear it, if it goes up in value, its a bonus.
