Dark matter filament found, scientists say

I'm not sure what this means entirely, but clearly with the discovery of a new particle, which may explain why particles have mass, this discovery could open a whole new understanding of the universe.

I can only hope that such findings bring some real problem solvers to mankind, such as new forms of energy and medical advances and who knows, maybe even flying cars!

The Higgs boson and dark matter and dark energy are different phenomena.

These are separate discoveries, which make them all the more interesting.

That is one long piece of string; about 58 million light-years from end to end.

A single light-year is 9,460,730,472,580 Km (9.46 trillion Km)
So this string is 548 trillion Km long...

Then that would 548,000,000 trillion or just 548,000,000,000,000,000,000 Km.

Bit of a jog that.

I found a dark matter filament in my yoghurt this morning. I wasn't pleased.

If they find a way to bind these two theories, ya think airlines could actually keep to their schedules and not lose my luggage?

The airlines are hopeless.

If they combine these two discoveries into a "Star Trek" style transporter device, we'd be a lot better off than we are being crammed into aluminum tubes like cattle after being groped and fondled by a bunch of dimwitted, uniformed perverts.

Don't sugar-coat it Grady...let us know what you really think!

I've adjusted to the airport fun by only flying 1st Class to skip half the problems.

Riding a boson on the filament highway sounds nice though.

They'd still have the dimwitted, uniformed perverts I'm afraid. TSA is my favorite WTF subject.

I thought you'd like to know , Professor Higgs is on record as having said , although
his theory has been proven , he didn't think that it would be of much use to anyone
at the present time . I am paraphrasing what he said , of course.

Dark matter was first proposed in the 1930s, again by guys with a pencil, paper and a slide rule. Gravitational lensing caused by dark matter has been noted for years, but this is the first time that the bending of light due to the dark matter filament's gravity has been seen along the entire length of the filament.

Dark matter and dark energy make up 95% of the mass in the universe. The stars, galaxies and planets make up only 5%. Here is an artist's impression of dark matter, showing the proportional distribution of baryonic and non-baryonic forms:

Never before have I seen an artist`s impression that conveys an idea with such simplicity and perfection.

Black filament in the yogurt...probably something that fell out of the spring bar on the watch.

As for the H-B particle - still some things to investigate, but it looks like a few theories are being supported! Stay tuned for a major breakthrough, maybe?

ROLEX will need to come up with a new movement to take this into account, but I think someone has beat them to it.
