I got to play with some lovely vintage Rolex's this morn ...

I had a coffee this morn with my friendly watch dealer, he let me play with some toys ... excuse the quality of the pics, iPhone 4 sorry!

1680 Red, pictures don't do it justice, the dial, hands and bezel as as close to perfect as you could expect ...

1665 DRSD with an awesome chocolate dial ...

Newman Daytona ...

PP 5270 ... not vintage, but lovely all the same!

Am sorely contemplating the 1680!

Morning coffee seems especially flavoursome this morning Cary!

You must have really enjoyed having the opportunity to get your hands on those beauties. Which one took your fancy the most? Any of them find a new home on your left wrist?

Edit: Sorry, was too busy staring at the pics to see you mention the temptation of the 1680 at the end!

Would love them all but the only one even close to my price range is the 1680! Box, papers, plus a Rolex service certificate from 2011, what more could one ask for! Currently working on my finances lol ...

Not a Newman Daytona....it's standard Daytona reference 6263.

I would put a weeks wages on that guess.

The 5270 was purchased to celebrate a special birthday.

Yes indeed, it was the Time Traveller himself! In the space of a hour, he was onto his 3rd coffee! And Mike, your name came up, I asked Jed about whether he knew that guy with the vast collection of Sub's on a resurrected thread that I saw the other day. I think you need to post some pics of the rest of your collection! Hint hint!

Sure looks like a great day at Jeds and beautiful watches, Cary, is the 1680 red yours yet?:).

@Jed: you should make some stopovers in Sydney too so we can gawk at your watches live!:)

I'm still working on my finances, I've not recovered from the hit I got from the plat DD, I swore to myself that I'd not be buying anything else for at least 12 months lol. But the 1680 is speaking to me!

Platinum is just a stepping stone to your first vintage steel Rolex sports watch.

Look upon it as a rite of passage...

Cool, do post pics when you get your special 1680, the plat DD surely sounds awesome though and should make up for any vintage yearnings till then:)!

The person who recently serviced my 14060 was wearing a Paul Newman. He actually had a Rolex poster on his wall that featured his watch-- I guess Rolex must have done this for some of their dealers, years ago. He mentioned that he had been offered $100,000 for the watch. What impressed me most was how sharp the watch looked on his wrist. I guess these watches were 36-37mm, weren't they? His made a very "large" statement on the wrist. His watch had a black dial and white subdials. The subdials looked almost pearlescent and much prettier than photos show.

Sir, I might need to visit Melbourne again soon and this time catch up with you as well! I am thinking a Double Red is calling me.Last time I was there it was around a month or so ago for a 5 hour stop over from Sydney to have lunch with Stevo!

Beautiful watches!!
