What happens with a s/n is no longer legible

What happens to Rolex oyster cases where there's case pitting that occurs which makes the s/n no longer legible?

What does RSC do to these? I'd like to hear people's experience and comments about this.

Thanks.

Sometimes they'll offer a replacement case with the 4 million serial on it.

As long as it doesnt look like its been removed intentionally it's my understanding it will be serviced by Rolex without too much grief.

Thanks for the replies. The watch is a 16030 all SS - how much does a new case go for via RSC? Jared at TZ is offering me one for $1695 no box or papers but the there is case pitting. Worth it?

Why do you care if the SN has been worn off?

I assume for resale...but wanted to ask.

I always assumed that RSC would need a s/n to service a watch.

Isn't there a serial # on the movement too...

I think a RSC replacement case would be very expensive...

I just called RSC in Toronto, they said they will still service the watch even though the serial number is not legible. However, they will evaluate if the s/n being hard to read is caused intentionally or by natural wear. If it's natural wear, they will still service the watch.

I'm asking the seller to send me photos of the pitted area and it there are any other areas that are pitting on the case.
