Exceeding Rare Rolex Precision Campbell Named For Speedfreak Sir Malcolm
Never before have I seen one of these. It is in a rhodium plated ID case with a stainless screw back, has the Rolex Superbalance 15J 700 series movement commonly known as the cal.1210, or its immediate predecessor from the 1930s-1940s. The dial is silver, the inner portion having aged to a patinated copperish hue, with outer metallic silver seconds chapter, which doubles as a minute track, with sweep seconds, and fancy radium pointer hands. It comes with a fresh overhaul and timing as of 1 Oct., 2007. Signed Rolex movement, nice and clean all around. Signed ROLEX-PRECISION CAMPBELL, SHOCK-RESISITNG on dial. It is named after SIR MALCOLM CAMPBELL, a 1930s speedfreak who took his famous BLUEBIRD up to an all time high land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah in 1935, becoming the first person to drive an automobile 300 miles an hour. He was wearing a Rolex Oyster when he did it, as before, in 1932, at Daytona, for which Rolex commemorated his achievement as then holder of the World Land Speed Record by showing a smiling Campbell in his racing gear, with quotes about the durability of Rolex watches, on the company's latest 1932 advertisement. Then Rolex actually put Campbell's name on a line of watches, probably in the mid to late 1930s. This is the only one that I have ever seen. The 1932 Rolex advertisement (a photo of which is seen here) and the watch are offered together as a package.
