will the x II become the new Sub?

i read the the white 42mm X II is the most want rolex, ATM, because most of the collectors start to realised the potential.

is that true?

impossible - try diving with an Exp42 and you'll understand why... no uni-directional bezel. So for those who want to dive...its a no brainer.

but - if someone wants to pay me now for the pleasure of my Exp42 but of course pay higher than premium fee's, well I'd be happy with that.

Those collectors each already have at least one Sub.

Where did you read this anyway?

What potential? You can buy it at anytime of the day when the sun is out (or not!).

I think that's a sad, but ultimately true statement.

Here is the review of the 42'' Expl.2, which is mixed to say the least:

Doubt it. With the Tudors and DSSD out there, I think they have larger sized dive watches covered. If Sub sales were down, maybe, but I think they are still very very popular.

Sure -- I think the SubC rocks! Other people love the DSSD, and others the 14060. Try them all and see what sings to you!

They could just rename the DSSD the Submariner Date II.

Sorry my ignorance but the "c" after the sub, SUBC
means ceramic?

Who seriously goes diving with a Rolex. I dive and I have a number of nice timepieces, but would never consider taking them to dive. Rather take my Suunto Stinger watch/computer as it gives me better and safer information.

Yes. My TT SubC quickly became my daily watch a few months ago.

I seriously doubt that the average Rolex owner actually buys the watch for the intention (marketing wise).

How many Milgauss owners bought one because they work around magnets. Or how many DSSD really need a watch with that kind of ability.

Fact is that people buy what they like and not the intention of the watch (for the most part).

And to add to the OP, I have a black dial one and coupled with my 320, it has really made me not want anything in the 40mm class. I gave my GMTIIc to my old man (on an indefinite loan). Six months after, I swapped with him for the day and I could not deal with it. I found the GMTIIc WAAAAAYYYYY too small.

I am not sure how some of you can manage wearing a 40mm one day and a 44mm the next. When I had the GMT and the 320, it felt weird going back and forth but the 320 is only used to go to weekend functions or nice dinners so it was easier to adjust back to the 40mm.

So, after my rant, I do believe that larger watches are and will become the future. Purist will alway be but new collectors are getting into the hobby everyday and there are plenty of larger watches on the market today than 10 years ago so there will be a large number of new collectors that will be collecting larger watches.

Just my 2˘

I agree !
I'm one of the new collectors as I'm still young,
So far my Rolex's are the smallest, Everything else such as Audemars , Hublot (44M) and even my PP is larger than one of my rolex (36m) but atleast my GMT II and Daytona are still in a decent size range, Even the V. Constatine is larger or just an optical illusion ? Everything else makes my rolex's look smaller

The new Explorer II's are the best modern day Rolex watches on the market, so I can see the high demand.

No block case, no gloss dial and gloss ceramic insert, no silly proportions between the case and braclet, the Explorer II is pretty much perfect.

I can't see that happening. IMO, the Sub will always be THE watch for Rolex aside from the DJ's.
