My Three Favorites and...What the heck is that on the bezel!??HELP!!!

I was taking a photo of my the three Amigos and noticed something on my bezel...it appears something has gotten to it and eaten away at some of the finish/color?

Look between 40 and 45 on bezel. Wonder what did that?

If it was an oil stain then alcohol would have cleaned it... under a 10x it is just missing color. No scratch or dent either.

More shots...It doesn't bother me and I'm the kind that might not even change out bezel when it gets serviced in 5 or 10 years from now. I just wish I knew how it happened!!!

I thought it could be but under a 10x loop NOTHING no scratch, rub, dent or mark. I wonder if a drop of weed killer, bug spray...gasoline could do something like that if it wasn't cleaned off?

Pool chemicals, I always rinse my LV off after adding chemicals to the pool.
Just a thought.

Speaking of pool chemicals.

I take my watch off when handling pool chemicals, one wayward drop of liquid chlorine in your bracelet, guaranteed to rust whatever metal it touches. Chlorine is as corrosive as acid, just from the opposite end of the PH spectrum.

Yard work...I'm leaning toward a gasoline splash drop when you filled your mower, string trimmer or other power tool. It looks like an unnoticed errant gas drop stayed on there until it evaporated.

heat? For example if you happened to be near a bbq, or you're a smoker and the insert got some cigarette ashes at this spot, or was to close from a lighter flame?

Thanks guys...It wasn't heat...but I didn't think of that.

I'm leaning now toward gasoline as my number one theory...

I didn't really notice it until the outdoor pics. I agree I'm deffinately leaning toward a chemical/gasoline drop or spill of some sort.

It looks like it could be some type of water. I know the water from sprinklers has that effect on my car paint from the iron deposits in it. Just a thought.

Might be a splash from coke or a dr. Pepper type drink as well. It does hell to a paint job. No reason it couldn't do it to an insert I would think.

If you want to replace it, Gary Wilson is close by (in Lawrenceville) and is a great certified watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. He did my Root Beer insert - replacement cost was only $51. It was part of a service so there is maybe going to be a bit of labor to remover, replace insert and install bezel.

Thanks...is it as expensive as it seems from Rolex...as people "try" to sell them on the forum for $500.00?!

Anyone know?
