His siblings all had far smaller ears but my daughter took a shine to little "Dylan" and that was that.

Paul, if you want a dog with personality it is hard to go wrong with a Yorkshire Terrier. Heart of a Doberman is right until a bird flies out of a bush and then they are running for their life until they realize someone is watching of course. A great companion for your daughter, that is for sure!!

If you are looking for a dog, that is kid friendly, the english springer spaniel is highly recomended , he's not a one man dog, and becomes friend of the whole familiy, will not snap at anyone, and is the most loving dog one can find, Floyd is my 3rd English Springer .

About 15 years ago we had two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, mother and son. They were fantastic and wouldn't let strangers anywhere near the kids, but they were really soft with the kids.

Our two are not good with kids. The sad part is children are drawn to them because of their small size, but they are scared of kids, especially toddlers.

The breed it self is known not to be good dogs for kids because they are fragile. They are great dogs for people like us with no children.

My dog Max is a Portugeuse Water Dog. This is an outstanding breed that I knew almost nothing about before I got him, and now I don't think I would have any other. They are smart, friendly, great with kids and people, obedient and decent-sized. Best of all, they have hair instead of fur, so they don't shed. And you can paint them!

My guy is a Great Pyrennes. He is our third and the best one of all. Moose was a rescue dog, there is no doubt in my mind that he knew what would have happened to him if we didn't take him in.
