Rolex explorer ii bought 4 days ago gmt issue

So I purchased a Rolex explorer ii less than a week ago brand new with warranty. My gmt hand runs slower than the hour hand I set it on equal time and it keeps distancing itself until eventually the hour hand runs a full cycle around it, the gmt hand moves just much slower than the hour hand. What could be the issue? I'ts keeping perfect time it just that my second time zone doesn't keep up with it... I dropped it off today I'm really upset and almost regret having bought a watch with the second time zone function now...

Dont regret it. I own the GMT Master II. The gmt function works perfect. So yours has a real problem. I would just return the whole watch and get another one. Who knows what else is wrong with it.

I have a feeling that the watch is working perfectly and you are reading the 24hr hand wrong.

I don't understand what do you mean - the gmt hand is supposed to run slower than the hour hand. In fact it should move with half the speed so, beggining from the same point, when the gmt hand goes one full circle the hour hand has done two full circles. The gmt hand when set at the local time tells time in the 24hour format - only you should read the time it points to on the bezel not the dial! Now when you set the gmt hand at a different time than the hour hand, say Moscow time, then the gmt function alows you to read time in two different time zones. Take a look at the manual, it is really self explanatory

Your GMT hand should be referencing the 24 hour time which is displayed on your bezel...not the hourly plots on the dial.

Agreed. Not to be anything but helpful, consider this;

The GMT hand is not designed to be on the actual hour of the other timezone - for example; if you set the watch for Pacific Time and want the GMT hand to track Eastern Time, you do NOT set the watch at 3:00pm and set the GMT hand at 6:00pm

The hour hand should complete two revolutions for one of the orange "GMT" hand. Make sure that when you set the watch the GMT hand is at the correct place.

If you set the time at exactly 3:00pm, the GMT hand should be
precisely on the bezel dot between 14 & 16 numbers. This is the 15th hour, or 1500 hours (if you are setting both to home time zone). If you want the GMT hand to track Eastern Time, the GMT hand would be set to the marker indicating 18 on the bezel, since it is 1800 hrs Eastern when it is 1500 hrs Pacific.

Most folks either set the GMT hand for "true GMT" time, or for their home time zone (as I do). When traveling, you can advance the black hour hand forward or backward as needed to be in the local time zone, thus providing the orange hand for reference of the time back home.

The Explorer II model was, IIRC, originally designed to allow those in dark environments (explorers in caves, people in places with continual light or darkness) to differentiate between day and night.

Remember the 24 hour hand will only do a full rotation of the dial once every 24 hours. So of course this hand will move slower that the standard 12 hour hands.

Remembering you read the second time zone off the outside 24 hour bezel, not the inner 12 hour markers. Also take into account 2pm on the 24 hour outer bezel is represented as 14 (14.00hrs) as per the 24 hour clock.

From what you describe, to me it seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the help! The salesman was the one who made it give me the impression it was completely off when in fact it was and is functioning properly! He said I can set it either to the 24hr on the bezel or the hour marks on the face, that being said he then set it two hours back on standard time not 24 hr time in turn causing me to believe the watch was defected. The salesman at the authorized dealer location should better educate himself on watches prior to selling them and setting the times on them. Had I used a bit of logic I would have caught it on my own, once again thank you all for the input!

Enjoy your watch, please do some reading and research about your watch and it's functions.
GMT watch functions have been around for over half a century...
In the future, I'd recommend doing that before you purchase it, so you know WHAT you are purchasing.
