Nipple dial

What is it and why does it cost so much to obtain one? I was at Fourtane in Carmel during the Concours de Elegance and saw 1 TT GMT from the 70's for a small fortune.

The nipple dial had broader, beveled gold surrounds on the hour plots with a very small dot of tritium for lume. They were made during a transitional period between the time when Rolex went from plain tritium plots (with no gold surrounds) and the later plots with a thin gold surround (like we see today).

They don't fetch that much more on 16753's in the market - maybe the watch you saw was a 1675 that had other rarity?
