Need help and suggestion for my first Rolex
I am thinking of getting my first Rolex tomorrow, after getting one for my wife last month. Have shortlisted three: Day-Date II (Black Dial), DateJust II (White Dial) and Submariner Date (Black Dial). Need help on this ASAP. Thanks.

Well you have to consider how you dress most of the time. Its a personal choice and you need to try them all on and see what you like best.

they are all quite different, so its just going to have to come down to your personal views once you've tried them all on your wrists. If you dive would you in a DJII or DDII, whereas you can dress up or down a Sub and dive in it. If you don't dive, then whats the appeal of the Sub and is that stronger than the appeal of the more dressy watches?

You seem to like the Datejust II and for your first I'd say the Datejust II with black stick dial would do it all (until your buy your second!)

All great choices. For a 1st, I'd probably lean towards the Sub.
Good luck! |

The sub is perhaps less original but you won't get bored or disapointed through time.

I started out with a Datejust and an Airking. I sold them to buy a GMT Master II, and now have an Explorer I as well. I found myself preferring the sport watch styles as I have gotten older, and the GMT Master II goes with anything from a suit to shorts and a tshirt. That said, try the Submariner on. If you like it, it is a fantastic watch, sturdy, useful. Plus 007 wore one on some of the original Bond movies!

Sub. It would make a great first Rolex. If you get bored with it, you can always sell/trade it with no problem.
But you gotta ask yourself, which one sings to you?

It depends if you are a suit guy. Most would say DJ goes great with formal wear but the Sub is timeless, makes a statement and looks AWESOME at the end of a suit cuff.

As a first choice I would recomend GMT IIc. Sporty but dressier than Sub (PCLs you see) yet not as blinky as the DJ.
Else DJII 41mm with blue dial either smooth (stelthier/ more versatile) or fluted bezel (definately more dressy). It shows more than the white - that Rolex blue comes straight from the dance of the sunrays in the Aegean sea - it is the most magnificent watch-color I have ever seen. Plus far less people wear it... |

Ddii (white dial) or sub, no wrong choice up there though. All beautiful in their own way.
