Running WAY too fast
I have owned my lady's Rolex for three years. I have never had a problem with it. I love this watch.
Last week it suddenly began gaining 1-2 hours per day. What is going on? It did slip off my arm and hit the carpeted floor. Could this account for such an alarming acceleration? I would appreciate any help I can get on this. Thank you! Last edited by woshirta; 8 November 2007 at 12:36 PM.. Reason: Third time trying to post, got tired of typing |

Welcome wo,
If this suddenly happened, I would suspect that you managed to get too close to a magnetic field., perhaps a recent hospital visit, or even too close to some cell pone systems. It's possible that you knocked something out of whack, but a three foot drop to a carpeted floor is probably much less shock than smacking it on the door, or steering wheel, or grocery cart... A three year old watch should not need anything close to a Rolex service call.. and it is out of warranty.... I would take it into a trusted watchmaker, or your AD if they have one on staff...have him/her look at it...I'll bet it's something minor.... Also, all your other posts are here...since this is your first post the software holds them up for a spell......sorry... |

Woops! Sorry about too many posts!
Thank you for the advise. What is AD - Authorized Dealer?
I have just moved to a new state. Would this simply be a local jewler that sells Rolex? Will I need to take my original documentation? Sorry to sound so backward here, but this was a gift and I haven't really had any exposure to the 'business end' of it. I certainly hope it is something simple. If it is just a matter of being too close to a magnet, I should think it could be de-magnetized. Is this an expensive proceedure? I wouldn't think so, but when talking about a Rolex, nothing seems to be cheap! Thank you again for your help and support. |

Got your spring a bit tangled, I think.

That's my first thought! The hairspring in a watch is a very thin, sensitive spiral-like spring, that breaths in and out at 28800 beats, and determines the rate of the watch (or simply said; the accuracy of the time). So when it's wacked out of shape, it can and will effect the time drastically!
So, yes, if you can, bring it to an authorised watchmaker, which you'll find at your AD (authorised dealer)! This should be a fairly easy fix, and shouldn't cost you a lot of money... Good luck! Oh, and welcome! It's great to see another lady! Hairspring:

Welcome to TRF!
Yes, as suggested, it sounds like a balance issue, so I would just go to your AD to have it fixed. Good luck! Oh, and remember to post pics of your Lady DJ here, please!

Thanks all!
I keep hoping that it will get better - not!
I couldn't find an AD Rolex dealer listed in my area. I did find the number for the main service center in NY and they were able to tell me of two places. I called both: one sends it out and the other does service on site. Now I just need to get it in! I thought to wait until after Thanksgiving because I'll be traveling and I didn't want to leave it so long. But, then I remembered that the holiday rush begins then, so I will try to work it out some time this week. It's nice to know that it might not be to drastic. I'd be sick! Silly to be so in love with a watch?!? Oh, and it was great to hear from another lady - I was beginning to think this was a 'man only' club or something! |
