Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 6241

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, though I'd been reading it since May when I was researching the purchase of my first Rolex. However, this post is not about my Rolex. Rather, it is about a Rolex that surfaced when a friend of mine here in Ottawa, Canada, noticed my new Submariner 14060M. He mentioned that he had bought one in 1977 but had not used it much at all in the last decade or so. Indeed, he said it was living in a "shoe." At any rate, it is a Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 6241, which he bought in 1977 for 469 dollars.

Any idea what is may be worth now? And any idea as to how it may best be valued? Also can anyone tell what year this watch was first released?

I was thinking that a trip to Howard's Jewellers here in Ottawa may do the trick to get the answers to these questions but maybe somebody in the know here in the forum has a better opinion. My perfunctory research online tells me he may have a much desired and valued timepiece. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry if this post is repetitive. I tried to post yesterday but nothing appeared on the forum so I wasn't sure if I had done this correctly.

Thanks,
Rueban
Ottawa, Canada

Seen some from low 20,000's to 50,000 depending on condition and if box/papers are included.

Most 6241's where produced with Newman/Exotics dials, so to find one with a standard dial is uncommon. Assuming the watch is all original and correct I'd say around $25,000-$35,000.

$469 in 1977? Oh how I wish I could travel back in time, the Newman Daytona's are probably the ones that have rocketed up in price the most!

very hard to assess condition from the scans but they usually sell around $25k with dealers for good condition ones, pumper pushers (not screw down pushers) are a fair bit cheaper than the screw models - he'll see less than that obviously .
