You'll think I'm crazy

But, I can't figure out the weirdest thing about my old 1980 Datejust with plastic crystal.

I look at the lume on the hour hand at night and right next to my eye, eye touching the crystal.

Everything is blurry. But when the second hand sweeps by the lume, it appears to be going in the wrong direction. Counterclockwise.

This has been verified by a friend with a "Date."

I am sure there is someone here who can explain this weird phenomena. Not me, the watch!

The same thing happened to me once, I was talking to a flying fox while listening to some Jimi Hendrix on this planet...

I'm afraid I have no explanation for that...

I was staring at mine and it seemed that I kept seeing more dials inside the lume and then dials within those dials' lume within the lume of more dials that had more lume than mine. I fell asleep...

I think you are seeing the reflection of the sweeping seconds in the concave shaped crystal which looks like it is ticking in reverse.

or/ and

you need to get out more

Here's my guess: you were actually seeing the second hand reflected off of the surface of your eyeball onto the crystal of the watch.

That new 2 color lume you have would be a good test. I like your theory about eye reflection.

I'm intrigued! But I can't duplicate it very well because I simply can't see anything that close up. It's all too blurry.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to wipe the mascara off of my crystal....
