FaceTime
Husband and i have two ipad2, 2 iphone4s. Prior to the new IOS update I could FaceTime my husband only. When I tried to FaceTime my parents or any sibling, on any apple device, I could make initial contact, but then the screen froze up. We've had multiple genius bar appointments and the best they came up with is that our home wireless may be limiting speed/data that interferes with/limits video chat. With the new IOS update I can now FaceTime to all of my siblings, friends and parents.....only from my iPad! I can connect with them on their iPads and IPhones, but only from my iPad. I must be missing a setting on my iPhone but I'm damned if I can find it. Help!

Just like iMessage, FaceTime allows you to use an associated phone number and/or email on one device.
I use my mobile number to iMessage/facetime on my iPhone and use my email address to iMessage/facetime on my ipad. Go to settings to change it. |

Are you using wireless on iPad but possibly 3G on iPhone? That could be the issue

When you upgrade to iOS 6 try just using cellular 4G to see if you can connect.
Not suggesting you use it regularly, but it will isolate the problem - device vs. the WiFi.

It appears that you had two different issues.
1) You had an issue with facetime on ios5 where you would connect and the call would freeze. I do not think its your home network. The minimum speed for FaceTime is 100kbps so even if your home network sucks, it would have to be abyssmal to be a bandwidth issue. 2) With ios6, you can make facetime calls from only one device, your iPad. My original post was in regards to this problem. Check your facetime settings and make sure your phone has a phone umber or email attached ATT doesnt allow 3G/4G/LTE facetime unless you pay extra |
