Datejust by the numbers

Hey gang, I'm trying to sort out this Datejust. From the seller:

Model 1601
Movement 1570 non-quickset
Bracelet code N 11
Serial # N/A

From what I can tell, the bracelet code would date it to 1984, but I thought all automatic movements by then were quickset??

The clasp SWISSMADE looks wrong their should be a space SWISS MADE to be authentic.

It's altogether possible that the bracelet is a replacement, and hence newer than the DJ. Was this watch purchased by the seller NEW, or did he/she acquire it from another party?

Allan, I'll have to assume he's a reseller/broker. Been around eBay since 1998, solid 400 + feedbacks, lots of higher end watch sales.

I've asked for the first 3 serial digits, that might sort it out.

Exactly. Sounds fine as a dealer, but the discrepancy regarding the watch and the bracelet does need to be sorted out. Good luck with that, Al. The watch looks great!

Nice one, Al. That TT DJ was the transition model when the acrylic crystals were phased away and gave way to the sapphire crystals.

Also, note that the 14 K gold has given way to the 18 K gold which yours is.

Superb classic vintage stuff. You might want to check out that bracelet though, especially the connecting pin at the clasp end at 12 o'clock.....as well as the hinge pin between the 2 clasps.

In those days they did not rivet the hinge pin and there was the danger of it slipping out.

Thanks for the heads-up, J.J. We're looking for something for one of Nancy's sons. She'd prefer to get him a sports model, as he's recently completed his second Ironman triathlon, but Subs are a bit out of her range right now.

Hey JJ...when did those days end? I have a Mid-80's TT DJ. Perhaps Rolex would correct something like that with routine service?

I heard back from the seller, the serial # is 5037xxx which would make it a 1977, while the bracelet dates to 1984.

In any event, the auction's ended. Thanks to all who replied. I'll keep looking.
