Do you think the 44mm ROO will Replace the 42mm ROO and why?
there has been some talk around the forum that the all new AP ROO 44mm is going to one day replace the 42mm ROO.
i wanted to get everyone's take on this? I personally think the 42mm is a classic and around to stay. AP needs different choices for different clients. If they eliminate the 42mm, then what about those people who prefer smaller sized watches? But then again it still kind of confuses me because we are only talking about 2mm larger here which is not much.. Because the new ceramic rolex submariner is slightly larger than the older counter part.. rolex wanted to beef up the sub a bit so they got rid of the older size. on the other side, rolex still kept the daydate once they launched the daydate II.. Im just comparing to other watch houses and trying to see the trend if there is one? Maybe Rolex isn't a good company to compare AP to as rolex watches have never been as large as AP Roo's to begin with. AP Roos have always been known to be larger watches I guess if I compare it rolex then it would make sense that AP is beefing up the ROO a bit and slowly removing the 42mm ROO. BUT at the same time, I feel the reason they gave the 44mm ROO stick markers and not that classic arabic dial, is because they do plan on keeping the 42mm around?? IMO if they put the arabic dial in the 44mm ROO, it would be the perfect AP. I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this and what they think AP may or may not do in the near future? |

Don't think they will remove 42MM. It's a size most can wear whereabouts a 44 may not be. If Panerai started launching more watches in 47MM, I would doubt they would consider discontinuing production on 44s.

There will be some changes coming for sure, the 42 mm ROO line will be stream lined. I would say that about 60-70% of the current non-LE ROO line will be retired.

I strongly believe it will be eliminated... just see what happened with 39mm RO 15300... 'To break the rules, you must first master them' :D

I'd guess the RCs will end up discontinued as they look pretty closeto the 44 line. Safari, Panda, BB prob not.

Me myself think that it is not a good move. Maybe they are trying to make the modern jumbo even more special.

The RC's will be staying in the line and I think the 42mm size is here to stay just not as many as currently produced, some will be discontinued for sure.

42mm is pretty big as it is. About as big as I like to go. AP would lose too much market share going exclusively to 44mm. Just not going to happen.
Now what AP needs to do is modify there bracelets so folks with smaller then 7" wrists can wear. That would open the market significantly to their bracelet models. Rolex has done with by gong from four permanent links to three.

A lot will happen during the next year, Less points of sales = more watches to each AD.
But as Mike already said i'm sure some of the 42mm models will be discontinued in a near future.

To be honest, I think we have a bit to many ROO's at the moment. A little house cleaning will help :-)

At this point there is 560 points of sales and that will be slimmed down to about 300 next year.

I tend to Favor the 42mm, which is apparent in my latest purchase.. I can pull off the 44mm fine, as I do with PAM 47mm's, however they simply just aren't comfy ENOUGH, for daily wears.... Well 372 is, however the new ROO with the big pushers and crown guard just wasn't as... love it however |

I love the 42mm.... It wears just as large as my 44mm Hublot.
I believe and sincerely hope they are here to stay. |

Despite I have small wrist, I personally find the 44 wears a lot better than the 42, don't know why but it does. Rolex kept the DD 36mm along with DDII 41mm cos 5mm differences us a big difference and nowadays lots of woman likes to wear oversize watches hence 36mm looks just nice.. I too hope AP will keep the 42mm. You cannot have too many choices to choose from. .. Jen.
