1655
Saw my first 1655 in the wild today. I've seen them here and there in cases but not on a wrist....
I was talking to the guy so I asked about it....bought used in 1983 for around $800 bucks. The orange hand was faded white and the crystal was pretty scratched. Sorry but I had no idea it had a plastic crystal. The bezel was real smooth and there was no black in the numbers.... The guy said he only sent it into Rolex once years ago.....it's his only watch and he didn't really know much about it. He said once a couple years ago someone offered him 5k. I filled him in a bit about its collectibility and value. I have no doubt he is on the Internet researching now. That's it....didn't thnk to take a pic. Oh he let me hold it to look at it....man it was smaller than I thought it would be....39mm???? Maybe the smooth worn bezel made it look even smaller,,,, |

Yes it is around 39mm. I like the size. Condition is important for the value of this model on collect-ability.
$800 is like too nice. I hope he keeps it and gets it serviced.

Good eye! Makes you wonder how many of those (and other) references are still out there waiting to be "discovered". And how many will be discarded and lost forever due to the owner's lack of awareness of the value.
Gotta love that vintage!

Absolutely one of my fav vintage Rolex's for sure. really strong market for homage's and fakes of the 1655 which just makes the real ones all the more desirable and they're getting rarer and rarer.

I've taking a liking to this watch recently... The faded orange hand to white is considered an "Albino" I've read. Personally, I'd rather it be nice n orange :-)
