So in the early 80's Rolex went to the 16800 Submariner and the early ones still had matte dials.
Did this model introduce the unidirectional bezel? Also, if I got one of these, and had it serviced at an ASC, would they switch the dial to an enamel dial? I've heard horror stories about this. Would a 1680 Luminova matte service dial fit on this watch? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

The 16800 did introduce the unidirectional "click" bezel, as well as the sapphire crystal and the faster beat 3035 movement..
Rolex is not going to replace the dial unless you OK it.. They don't do anything like that for free.. The changes from the matte dial to the surround dials are usually by owners who aren't interested in originality, or the matte dials are so degraded they elect to go with the newer dials... As to a 1680 dial, I believe that the locating feet are different on that movement from the 3035.. Perhaps somebody can confirm..
