Nothing against Omega but Bond should always wear a Rolex IMO.

And, for the record, Bond as a character doesn't tend to wear flashy watches - never has done in the novels, that's for sure. In the most recent novel, he was wearing a 34mm OP Date - purely functional, much like the Planet Ocean, in that respect

Bond is a fictitious character and doesn't exist in real life. In his world run by Eon productions, he'll wear, drink or drive whatever someone is willing to pay.

I'd rather know and see pics of what my TRF colleagues are wearing and enjoying with their families and friends.

Fleming didn't even rate Rolex. He only made Bond wear a Rolex because it could be used as a knuckle duster!

In Bond movies more non Rolexes than Rolexes have been worn.

Rolex don't seem interested in fictional characters. It lowers the class of the brand IMHO and I'd really hate to see Rolex choose to actually pay to have this association.

Omega can flog more planet oceans this way no doubt. Much like the 007 editions they release. It works for them as there are clearly those who will pay big $$$ to have the bond watch.

But I find the whole marketing stance cheapens the brand, who seem to be attempting to develop their stance among the higher tier watch companies.

I don't think Rolex needs that kind of marketing, Rolex is well know worldwide and stands to a higher standard, its basically a life style brand IMHO.

bottomline. like it or not. BOND works for OMEGA #'s wise. does this 'cheapen' the brand? no moreso than TIGER sporting a Rolex Deepsea. Bond? fictional? this is nothing new. see DOXA.

I love the Bond movies, always have. That said, I don't care one bit if he is wearing a Rolex or not as I am still going to be a fan of both. On the other side, I would love for Rolex to have absolutely nothing to do with Tiger Woods.

60 minutes had a good interview with barb broccoli and eon productions execs and it was said they don't take a dime for recent craig 007 placements, but rather the product placement license holder has to market the movie with their product in every country the movie is screened. how this $ amount is factored in is not known to the public but i assume the marketing dollars are better than the $500k - $5M they would be able to command as a traditional placement deal. advertising ain't cheap.

i grew up on bond movies, my father loved them and so do i, much of the advanced technology they use to show is now reality, not all of course, the cold war helped. I don't care if he wears a rolex, but it certainly helped the sub in the old days, most men wanted to be bond, hot girls, money, exciting locations.

Rolex is just too expensive for the British government at the moment with the turndown in the economy etc. I'm sure it will bounce back and the might be able to issue him with a Rolex for the next mission.

I don't see how bond wearing omega cheapens the brand. Even if it does, I'd think a lying cheating golfer's association with Rolex cheapens that brand even more so.

There was only one Bond and that was SC.

DC doesn't fit the bill IMO. A sawn off 007?

Rolex used to be worn in the first Bond movies with SC. I think Rolex matured a bit since then.

I agree with the cheapening comment. Although almost the entire cast of the Expendables was wearing Panerai's and I don't feel like that cheapened their brand...though I suppose that could be debated.

Let's be honest here, Bond may be a fictional character but he is influential, anybody not know who he is? Sure it's about money but we are talking about one of if not the most well known fictional character ever. It's good to dream a little. People buy Bond, a bit of escapism is a good thing in my opinion.
