Can anyone comment on the current / future value of the Anniv. Sub. since it is no longer produced?

the prices for a used LV seem to be pretty high right now, 6K plus too high in my opinion, but a good indicator for future value

There is a boom right now. Some sellers trying to make a profit. Can't blame them.

We will see what happens. There are easy to find and not too expensive where I live.

I'd say 5500-6000 depending on serial (Y,F) and condition


Going nowhere but up IMHO. It is important to buy a Y,F for maximum appreciation.It's really one of my favorites (It was my first Rolex). below is my F-Serial.

Right now they are priced too high, taking advantage of those who didn't get one earlier and are now thinking that they might miss something..

This happens initially with every model that is discontinued, but, after time, they all fall back to typical levels..

Nothing really special about the LV, nor is it in short supply. No reason to expect that the long run will be any different for this model..

I always see a lot on the sellers forum, take a look there to get an idea. As others said they are in higher demand lately since they are no longer in production.

Have agree Larry much like the Internet hype with the so called mistake or stick dial GMT11.Many bought into that Internet hype and got there fingers burnt but still hype sells watches to some. Lets hope they don't get there fingers burnt by some of the crazy prices asked for what in reality is a 16610 sub they say what goes up must come down.

You've got me confused now, my one is an "F" serial, yet doesn't have the "flat 4" like you've got.

i disagree with those who claim the 16610LV to be just 'another' sub. how so?

the CLEAR differences are their for all too see and to imply otherwise is clearly misleading.

as for appreciation? it is what it is although i feel the someone asking for over 10000 for one is insane......at this time 2012

7000 seems to be right. i purchased a V series in 2009 for 6700 and jan 2012 the same AD gave me 6700 for it.

all this said the 16610LV should always command a PREMIUM over 'just another sub'

I received my first Rolex as a gift in the spring of 2008. It was purchased in Philly on Walnut Street. I remember my parents essentially giving me the option of a SS Sub Date, SS Sub LV, and maybe the GMT. I cannot recall if the GMTIIC was out then or if they still had the older models out. I went with the SS Sub Date.

I think at the time I chose it because it was iconic and seemed to be the best "starter" Rolex but I definitely regret not choosing the LV now. I will never flip the watch because of what it means to me in sentiment (and the fact my initials are on the back) but I still am stuck in the limbo of wanting the LV but feeling like what the hell am I gonna do with two Submariners.

Getting back to my opinion on the question posed in the thread... I think the LV will start to sink in price in a few years. I think the moderators hit it right on the head that now is that window period: the model has been discontinued long enough to develop some nostalgia and those that want it know they can get them in relatively great condition (new in some cases). It's also something of a transitional model with rehault engraving, maxi dial, but retaining the old clasp. The LV for me represents almost exactly the direction I wish Rolex went as far as case dimensions, maxi dial, and retention of the more utilitarian aluminum dial. Throw a new glide-lock clasp on the LV and you have essential my dream diver's watch. Just my opinion to spice up a thread I think we've gone over a few times.

I agree. IMO, and others, the price should rise and stabilize around $7000.

NOS or sealed 16610LV - Y or early F with Flat 4 are sold in Germany for 8000 EUR. There is a big hype at moment.

I hope Puffy shares his thoughts on this. He has a beautiful collection of LV's and he has put glidelocks on them as well.

I believe that the more desirable LV serials will separate themselves in price from the other serials. The Y's and F's with the flat 4's are not as common as finding a later serial in the LV.

I got my "Z" 16610LV in 2007 for £3,010 and I suspect the UK price is £4-4.5k now.

Someone is asking 12K for one now. That buyer would not be able to wear that watch and would be taking a huge chance at that price. IMO.

I think they will continue to go up, it's a collectible combination with the classic case, maxi dial and distinctive bezel. I do think its real appeal is for a collector of Subs though. I have an M series but its not the first Sub in my collection, IMHO I think you'd want the classic all black Sub if you were only going to have one.
Also I wouldnt stress too hard about which series to get. I've been collecting and trading for nearly 30 years and in my experience you may get a small premium for the first or last series models in a range but that's all. Check out current prices and there's not a massive difference between any of them. As ever condition and having all the stuff the watch came with is the big thing.
