Oysterdate 6694 Dial

G'Day readers,

I've just started a bit of a renovation project on an Oysterdate 6694.
I'm in a quandary with the dial....
As you can see in the photograph - apologies for rubbish quality - the dial is scratched.
I would like an exact replacement if possible - it's silver with gold markers.
Ironically I have a spare silver one but it has silver markers!
Maybe I could get a decent horologist to swap the markers over.
Alternatively I could get it restored, but am slightly concerned about the finish.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
The watch is a gold plated 1962 version that has seen better days but is completely original and will look great when I've finished.

How did the dial get scratched ?

When removing the hands ?

It can be restored but I would try to find a non-restored one . . .

Just my .02

the hands were improperly installed years ago and rubbed the dial. unfortunately that dial is toast unless it's repainted, so i would have the gold markers swapped out to your other silver dial by an EXPERIENCED dial technician. for that job i would suggest jack at IWW.

btw...6694 precisions are one of my favorite models! i have heard of gold plated versions but have yet to see one. does yours also have the gold plated oyster? please post pics when you finish the project!

all the best!

The Gold Plated 6694

Hello Janice & Fred,
Apologies for taking so long getting back to you, as I was unaware of any comments being made....don't know how I missed them...
Anyway, here are a few pics of the finished watch.
In the end I tried the silver dial that I had spare and it looked much better than I expected, as it sort of took on the gold colour, so I stuck with it.
I too like the 6694 model and have owned quite a few - I have two at the moment, one on eBay and I can't decide which dial to fit to the other one...Doh!!
I have tried a blue custom dial on the eBay one, which I have uploaded a couple of shots of, so please let me know what you think of it.
Cheers,
Dave

Old thread, but for me the blue custom dial looks great.
Complete makeover and the watch looks so different and "up-to-date".
