Guess the year of this Sub
I'm thinking of buying a used 50th anniversary rolex submariner from an individual. The guy bought a new ceramic sub and want to sell his green one.
He bought it from a very reputable store in dallas who took the watch on a trade in. I'ts 100% authentic but the guy seems to think it was purchased new in 2007. Seems to me to be a bit older. Here is a pic of everything, anything have an idea of the year on this? He wants 4k on it, is it a decent buy? |

R16800A30B9315 It isn't an anniversary Sub LV, but a 16800 with a (probable) aftermarket green insert, or at least the paper doesn't match the watch. 8987942 is for year 1985/1986 Or it's a fake with real warranty papers .... |

This “watch“ is bad joke IMO. Save your money for something different. Search in the TRF sels corner between trusted Sellers.

As others have already said, stay away from that watch and seller.

It amazes me how good you guys are. To look at a picture and be able to tell all that amazes me. I sure do have a ton to learn to be able to do that. That is another reason that I am glad I joined this forum

If you look at the date on the warranty picture, it looks to me like the year '87'
was written over with a zero. 7-2-87 would be approximately correct for the first sale date based on serial number. Does it have lug holes on the case? |

Isn't also the Pearl too yellow too?
I wouldn't buy it. Sounds to good to be true.

I just saw this post and knew right off the bat that it is definitely NOT a 50th anniversary sub. Someone is trying to pass off either a 16610 or one of its predecessors off as an LV.
The seller's credibility is critical in any used watch deal. I'd say their credibility is shot. Walk away! |

The watch on pictures, with "SWISS MADE" dial and SEL bracelet have to be post 2000. So obviously it isn't a 16800 from 1987, and papers and watch definitely don't match. I would ask the seller a valid explanation (before he goes to jail). Is $4k a decent price ? I don't think so ... |

Wouldn't be too hard for someone to take a 16800, send it to RSC for a new dial/service, buy a crappy green bezel off ebay, and then sell it to some unsuspecting sucker. |

Tell the guy that you want to buy this from that he got duped. The watch is likely a legit rolex, but the S/N on the paperwork dates it from the 80's. The dial/hands are not the "maxi" style as would be found on a LV sub. Also, that type of warranty certificate wasn't being issued with the LV as far as I know.
And, as others have pointed out, the date "87" has been written over with "07" so either the place that sold it to him was deliberately trying to be deceitful, or they didn't know what they were doing and bought this from someone else who was being deceitful. Quote:

Deceit = No Go
You have a bad seller with a questionable watch - should be end of story.
