Submariner reference number question. 1680-0 or 1680/0 vs 16800
Happy Saturday TRF!
Can anyone explain the difference of the Rolex Sub Date 1680/0 or 1680-0 vs 16800 ? Also should the 1680/0 or 1680-0 have the collectible red dial? Thanks for the help. |

The 1680 with serial numbers before 4.0 million serial numbers are considered within the Red Sub Range. They were made form 1967 - 1973(ish). The 16800 has the sapphire crystal, whereas the 1680 has the acrylic crystal. The early 16800's have the matte dial and the later models had the glossy dial with the WG surrounds. In the Top Row, the three in the middle are 1680 white, 1680 red and 16800 w/matte dial.

Thanks for the help and great photo! One other question however-- what does 1680/0 or 1680-0 signify? Not 16800- but 1680 followed by a dash or slash then the number zero.

I have not seen that on my watch cases...are you talking about what is on your paperwork or watch description? The number "0" refers to stainless steel and "3" refers to stainless steel and gold, so I would have to guess this is what you mean.
