GMT II, SUB, EXPLORER II, DSSD. Some thoughts about them.
Well, this thread is about a lot of things.
In some way it is also a response to a recent thread entitled "AD Experience?" or something... Anyway, I was at the AD for some other business and I spent some time trying on different watches (this is a big part of the AD experience in my opinion). Ok, my current "target" is a SS GMTIIC but I always like to try everything before settling. This is the list of watches that I tried and then I will report why I tried it and what I thought about the watch: - SS GMTIIC - YG GMTIIC - EXP II Black - SS SUB C - DSSD And now my comments/thoughts/whatever. -SS GMTIIC I like a lot this watch because I often travel and I appreciate the GMT function. It is a classic Rolex, very clean, and sport look. I like it a lot. - YG GMTIIC I tried this one because I was curious to see how much does actually YG weight. I think the additional weight that YG brings matches well the additional 100$ banknotes you have to lay on the table... Interestingly the sale rep told me: "For this watch you'll have to move to Florida...". I remember a thread on the topic a while ago. Anyway, YG is not for me (I do not live in Florida yet!) but I was just curious to try one on. - EXP II black dial Big surprise! I have never been fond of the EXP II, somehow it never appealed to me (I had the impression it was not a pure breed Rolex. I am not sure if this means something). Anyway, when I put it on my wrist I loved it! It really fits well and it is kind of more shapy than the GMTII. My wife did not like the bezel, but I was really surprised by how good it looked. Still, I won't buy it, but I now have a different feel about that watch. - SUB C SS Beautiful watch. Full stop. - DSSD BIG disappointment. I was curious to try on the "beast" but it is really exaggerated for me. I have relatively big hands and wrist but that watch is too thick. It is a unique watch, but it does really not fit on my wrist. So, this kind of sums up my feelings about sport Rolex lineup (no YM, it does not grow on me). I hope you enjoyed (survived) the reading. So you fall in the popular gmt and sub category. Nothing wrong with that!

DJII is a beautiful piece. as I said, I am just starting and I would like to start with a sporty watch. DJ is on the list but it will happen later on. at that point I am curious to see if I'll like more the 36 or the 40mm... |
