I'll be doing something crazy in December!
Hi guys! At the beginning of October I made a reservation for a SubC black here in the city but I am still waiting. Yep... and I am not very good at waiting. It's been a long wait.
The thing is that I'll be going out of the EU back to my country, since I am not a EU citizen, either a permanent resident, I'll be able to get tax back on everything I buy in the airport, actually not even tax back! Everything I buy in the Airport after being checked in into the international area, will be with no tax showing my passport and boarding pass. The thing is that in that area there's a Rolex store... I was just on the phone with one sales rep and they told me they have the SubC black and the Hulk in stock. So I couldn't resist it... in Germany there's no ADs that have in stock, or in the window shop... SO! I just made a reservation for both the 116610LN and 116610LV (the Hulk!!!). Sounds crazy, but the price is just so good, compared to the ADs here in Germany plus with no tax. I'll be saving up over €3,000 in total, so I said, why wait? Initially I really wanted just the LN but after looking at the Hulk thread here almost everyday, I am really craving/wanting it too. I think maybe some of you would say it's good to get something else and not two Subs? Well, I also like the White Milgauss... but I feel I just can't pass on those two Subs! They've been for long in my list since I tried them on in 2010 at the Rolex Store in Toronto.... Cheers!

Congrats to you!
It'll be interesting to see if you hold on to both. I've tried before, but the LV-C just dominated wrist time - and then there was just one. |

Personally I can't see the point in 2 of the same except for colour. There are so many other nice pieces out there. I had the LN and now have the LVC. I definitely prefer the LVC.
That being said I think it's gonna be a pretty special day for you when you pick them up. Well done! |

IMHO one Sub and one GMT C would make more sense (green or black I leave to you ...though LVc and GMTc sound like a nice combo).
That is, assuming dropping 15 grand makes sense

You realise you could get taxed on them when you land in Germany right ?
I mean in UK you are allowed £300 worth of stuff so I doubt in germany you are allowed 10000 euros worth. You will have two watches, both with boxes, papers and receipts. That's a customs enforcers dream. |

I think he's saying you will have import duty fees/tax when returning back home to Germany for bringing items back worth more than $300... Or the max limit of import set by your Government.

Canada like every country will have a limit on the amount of goods you can bring into the country. I highly doubt it is as high as the price of two Rolex watches. If it is, I apologise and will be immigrating as soon as possible. So when you take these watches back to Canada and walk through customs, you probably wont be stopped. If you do get stopped and they find two brand new watches you can be charged import duties on them. Especially when they are clearly brand new which they will be and you probably have a receipt on you saying you bought them outside Canada. If you do get charged it will in all likelihood cost you more than buying them in Canada in the first place. |

~JJ I will be coming back to Germany as a tourist so there's no check at all. I will just have my current collection enlarged though. Is there any limit of watches to be carrying? It's first time I ever hear of such thing. At least in the EU. I've always carried expensive things like a 3k+ macbook pro 17", an iPad, iPhone, DSLR with different lenses, etc, all of them looking pristine or almost new. I think such thing will probably apply if you're trying to pass maybe a Rolex with all stickers in? I have no idea. I've been actually in and out of the EU more than 10 times in the last 2 years and never been questioned of anything like this.
jay1988 I am going to South America, Canada is past already for me, lived there for some years until 2011. And if I ever get asked, I read one member's advice to be "always carrying the card of the watches you're carrying".

Why would you want to carry the card ?
The best thing is to not carry the card. The card if proof the watch is new. If I was ever to do such a thing, I would just carry the Box and the watch. Customs in any country would have a hard time proving you bought the watch abroad in that case. I would find some other way to get the card and papers back. |

I think you're probably right. Now I really like those two. Really. I think the LN is a classic watch, the color and everything. If the LV ever gets too much wrist time I'd probably think of a switch like this. But while the GMTIIC is still a nice watch, to my eyes the SubC is a lot better. I really do not like the typography around the bezel. Also, if we think of another kind of watch, like the daytona... I can say is nice but not really something I'd like to get... a colleague had a TT daytona with diamond markers and it was too flashy to me... maybe the SS could make it. I like watches with white dials... so maybe I should try one on when I get the chance just to have a look

I didn't know you were going to South America so you will probably be fine. It has never happened to me but I have heard stories. There was an article on here a while ago where the guy got fined $20,000 or something on his gold DD for trying to sneak it past customs. |

Correct me if i am wrong. As long as you're in the international area i believe taxs still get paid at the watch store and you need to take the receipt and form to the customs office which is also located in the departures area and have them verify it's being exported then take the receipt back to the store. It shocked me but last time when i was buying stuff in duty free that's all it is duty free not tax free in germany. I did what i mentioned above and THEN got some decent money back. Not the full percentage but much better than you get with global blue. And if you're coming to Canada buy here they discount pretty well and you will have taxes paid and everything will be fine and dandy. I haven't found a place in europe that was cheaper than what i have paid for my SubC back home. I also have a european passport but i can still claim tax back because my country of residence is canada.

All I know is if you buy a watch outside of the UK and bring it back into the UK then you are supposed to pay duty on it. Doesn't matter if you bought it in the international area or any of that. Trust me I wish it wasn't that way. |

By the way, jay1988, say you go to New York for Christmas and come back with a Rolex you bought there on your wrist. If I understand you well, you would pay taxes on that watch upon entry in the UK, right? That sounds weird to me, independently of the fact that it is true. Look at this post by a Brazilian fellow that just got a Rolex in NYC. I really doubt he had to pay tax. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=265766
