Malarky HK and Gaijin do Japan! Bum rushing the Rolex shops. Pic heavy!
So Mark (Malarky HK) is in town and PM sent here and there and walla we are Rolex shop bound in my neck of the woods here in Japan.
First stop one my favorite shops with new and used Rolex, great friendly and knowledgable staff. They are always so kind to me (helps that I have done business with them) but always take care of me and anybody I bring in there. The Rolex started coming out of the display cases... |

They had 3 LVs (an M, and a V both for $6000 both with papers and all the trimmings) and one which was an F. They had that one marked up high, but it was a beauty.
New Ceramic Green Sub, a used mint older style M TT Blue Sub, Mark's Seadweller ( a beauty!) the new Platty YM with the new clasp and bracelet. Really nice! All reasonable priced, and my LE Green TOG. |

Next shop down the road another mix of new and used. Here is an unusual dial I have never seen on a DD. The salesman told me the name of the dial, but I can't remember. Anybody? He insisted that it was an original factory option dial. Looked cool I thought.

Same shop the wiley sakesman asked me what I am looking for. What is my ultimate Rolex. I show him the Limited Edition Japan only Green TOG I am wearing and he freaks. He had never seen one in person and was shocked that I had one.
What's your next grail he asks? Without hesitation I say the DD II Platinum with the Blue Concentric Dial. He excuses himself and comes out from the back with this. Used. Just recieved in from an AD in Germany. Random serial number. Dam! What to do!? |

The box for the Platinum DD II is huge by the way... Like almost 4 times the size of a normal Rolex box. Surprising...

Ultimately I could not justify pulling the trigger. I can get a new one someday for just a bit more at a grey here. But after having it on my wrist and then having to give it back, I needed a drink. X 10
Mark and I met up with my friend and his son. Mark you are a stellar guy. It was a pleasure to meet you my new friend! Good times! By the way the night got better and better. Bummed that you had to leave. Next time. See you soon. |

Thanks again Tom for showing me around the local places. The platinum DD was the star of the day; and a monster of a watch. It had such a weight and presence - just unforgetable. Tom, the platty looked great on you and I think it was calling your name.
I had a great time. Tom is an absolute gentleman and pleasure to get to know. I laughed my a$$ off from all of his funny stories. I'll need to return the favour when ever you get over to HK. |

I gave the thought of getting the top of the food chain (DDII PT) it is as good as any financial security if bought at the right price after reading some of the posts here. However, I do not have that type of disposable income. Although, I am considering an upgrade to a new Sub C - just cannot decide if the black or green (Wearing a black Sub since 1996) and I do not know if I will miss the black if I go green. I will know once I see both of them side by side when I get to an AD.

Tom, thanks for the "bum's rush" tour of your local shops. Looks like you and Mark had a short but good time. By the way that DD platy looked mighty fine on you do you mind sharing the haggled price?? Also was that unusual colored DD dial more of a copper color versus gold? Hard to tell in the pics.
