First new Rolex in many years
The last Rolex I bought new, prior to Friday, was a Sea Dweller and that was so long ago I paid $1,099.00 for it at an AD. At one point I had owned a total of two, a manual wind Precision and the Sea Dweller, but ended up selling both of them after i got out of the military to help pay for school. That was around 1994 and I actually got more for each of them than I had paid for them originally. Lately I have been wearing a Breitling B-1 that I was given as a Christmas present in 2003. It is a wonderful watch. Fast forward to last Friday, and I finally decided to get another Rolex. I went to my local AD and the salesman spent a lot of time with me looking at the watches. I was surprised how well informed he was about the watches and their features. He also spent a lot of time taking about the construction of the watches and things like the Parachrom Blu spring. I looked at the Submariner, GMT Master, and finally the one I really came to see, the Milgauss. As a young boy I remember looking at a Rolex catalog and seeing the Milgauss described as "protected against fields of the highest magnetivity", and thinking that description was so cool. They had 3 different Milgauss styles, the white face, the black face and the special edition one with the green crystal. In the end I walked out with the one with the black face. A few things I have noticed with my new Milgauss. First is it is beautiful and works perfectly. I like the new bracelet better than the ones I remember on my old watches. The clasp seems much heavier. The second thing I noticed was the plastic box. I think my old ones had wooded boxes covered with leather. I like the new one better. The third thing is the paperwork. Although I like the new credit card style warranty certificate, I really liked the old warranty and chronometer certificate that came with the old watches I once had. So I love my new Milgauss! Although I will never use it in the conditions it was designed for, it brings me back to a time when I was a young boy thumbing through a Rolex catalog thinking about a Physicist wearing this special watch, and dreaming about the day I might own one.

Great job. Too bad you couldn't keep the old SeaDweller...
Post a pic of new watch. Did you have sticker shock or did you expect the prices to have gone up that much? Mick |

Sticker shock for sure!
I must admit that I had a major case of sticker shock. I had thought I would spend about $4000 or $5000 for the watch I would pick out. When the jeweler told me the price it did shock me. I probably should have done a little research first so I did not have a shocked look on my face! It was just over $8000 with tax out the door, and I am so glad I got it. But as to sticker shock, I absolutely had it. After I found out the price on the Milgauss, I did not even bother to go over and look at the many solid gold Rolex watches they had in another display case!

I am guess you got sticker shock if you have been away from Rolex for so long....lol. Congratulations on the nice piece. My cousin owns the limited edition version. The watch definitely has wrist presence.

Steve, great story, and congratulations on your new Milgauss.....I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy my white one! As for sticker shock, I remember it well, when I jumped back in after many years.....when the last Daytona I purchased was $4250.00.....Yikes!!
Looking forward to seeing those wrist shots....... Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and welcome to TRF. Enjoy your Milguass!

Thank you all for your kind replies and the pic requests! Here is a bad picture of my Milgauss which is part of a nice picture of our 7 month old Saint Bernard puppy. She insisted on being in any picture I was taking. One of our two other Saints is in the background. I had to put the watch on upside down to be right side up in the photo (if that makes any sense).
