ring question
Hello all, I bought my GF a platinum ring for her Birthday.
We took it to Jared's and they sized it down, I think from a 7 to a 5. (Did not buy the ring there) They did poor job leaving scratch marks on the prongs. Anyway, was I supposed to get the extra piece of platinum back? They sized it down and kept that platinum, what if I wanted to get it sized back up? Is it customary to get your leftover platinum back? TIA |

I say it depends on the jeweler. Some would not offer it back and conscider it part of the service to keep the scraps. These days with gold and platinum being so expencive I would not have a problem asking for the scrap that is left over. Imagine at the end of the day how much scrap is left over from repairs and adjustments.
I have a great collection of scrap gold from old rings, bracelets, as well as scrap from some custom stuff I had done from old jewelry melted down. I keep it all. |

Just FYI, went back today after speaking with the manager, got my platinum back. I will keep it in case we ever re-sive it up again.
There never offered it to us, I guess you needto ask for it. |
