I think you may find 40mm a little small even though the hulk looks a little bigger on the wrist. In any case the hulk is a beautiful watch.

I would consider going to a Sub from a Planet Ocean a downgrade

A Rolex is a Rolex, the rest are just watches.

Comments like that really bug me. If you look at it objectively, the only thing that is demonstrably better than the Planet Ocean is the clasp. I personally don't care what brand name is on the dial, I get excited about truly great watches. The Planet Ocean is a truly great watch, the new Sub is not

If you haven't tried on the new generation of Omegas, you might be surprised...I wouldn't own any Omegas made between about 1980 and 2005, they really did fall a long way from their peak and made some truly awful watches during that period. I'm glad to see that they're beginning to regain some of the quality and design flair that made them the number 1 brand back in the day - had internet fora existed at the time, I am sure plenty of folks would have dismissed Rolex as not being an Omega Chris |

DSSD could be a smaller jump on size perspective.

I've had 44, 45 and 47mm panerai's as well as a 48mm breitling and have the same size wrist. I find the subc to be perfect in size now and the bigger watches to be uncomfortable now. My subc lv, Pepsi and djII get 99% of wrist time these days

Keep the PO. Save for the Sub. Different enough to have both. Especially the 45.5mm. Although I have a feeling the Sub would look like a toy after taking the PO off and strapping on the Sub.

I'd hold on to the PO. You may regret it later. Give it some time.
Good luck! |

Please tell me what to do??
Grow a set brother and decide what you want. Other people's opinions are nice, but this is your call. Listen to advice and decide. You did ask for what to do....this is my telling you. I personally much prefer the sub!!!

Keep the Planet Ocean, the 8500 is a fantastic watch

8500 is too thick. Sell it on the boards, forget about it, then and enjoy your new Sub.
It's one thing to appreciate the build of a nice watch (such as the 8500 PO) and the lume is to die for. It is an absolutely gorgeously executed piece and I believe offers the best bang in the buck in the industry at present. However, having said that, if it wears like a refrigerator it's not comfortable. My maximum tolerance is the 45.5mm 2500 iteration of the PO.

I agree. Thickness and comfort caused me to go with the SubC over the 8500. Plus, I liked the less busy look of the SubC face over the cramped-looking 42mm 8500. And, regarding the movement itself----I've looked at how the 8500 compares to the SubC. The 8500 is the better movement in several respects. But its like comparing an A to an A+. The 8500 isn't SO much better that you should let the movement make the decision for you, IMHO. The Rolex is an older, proven, fantastic movement. And Rolex does it in a much smaller package than the 8500. If Omega was able to fit the 8500's goodness in the size of the SubC movement, then I'd be impressed. Oh, and by the way, my SubC has been running about a second off per week!

Save for your next buy.
IMHO, you aren't ready to flip the PO, or maybe haven't the soul of a flipper.

If you like the PO that much then I would definitely save for the sub. You will regret getting rid of the omega.

Wearing a Rolex makes me happy, which is something an Omega can't do. isn't that what it is all about? go for the watch that will make you the most excited to put it on.
