Help! Need info on this rolex
Hey guys, The rolex I have here is very old, made in 1940 I think but I cant seem to find information on it. I hope you guys can help me out. What I do know is the model is rolex perpetual datejust, but THe band on it is very rare. I took this watch to the jeweller and he said it is an ORIGINAL. Can anyone confirm this??

Hi there, welcome aboard!
Any chance you can remove the bracelet and post the reference number between the 12:00 lugs, and the first 3 digits of the serial number between the 6:00 lugs?

Welcome to TRF.
The "bark" bracelet is no longer offered but is a rare find if you like that type. Your piece has a cyclops over the date and the cyclops first appeared on the date-just models in 1954, so it is not from the 40's.. The picture you provided is really not good enough for anybody to make definite statements.., but if you had it authenticated, then you are good to go... Or did the jeweller just say the bracelet was original ???? As Al said, we need some numbers and better pics to help you out further.. |

Welcome to TRF!
Not the best of pic quality, but it sure does look like a nice "Bark" finish Rolex to me! Whether it's a DJ or DD I cannot tell from the pic due to heavy glare where the day aparture on the DD normally is. I just wonder why a YG DJ would have the President bracelet. Would be nice to get a close-up of the dial, and - as Al states - the serial number under the lug at six o' clock. Now, if you have ANY doubt as to how to go about taking off the bracelet, better have an AD (Rolex)(Authorized Dealer) do it for you.

Rolex DID make some DJs that they put in the same case and President bracelet normally reserved for the DD. My father purchased one over 40 years ago, and when he passed away left it to me. The story at the time was that Rolex was out of stock on the DD but had this DJ and my father didn't want to wait for the DD so he bought the DJ. At least I know that mine is authentic as it has been back for service a number of times when my father had it, and also since I have had it. At the time he purchased this watch, he paid what he felt was the outrageous price of $680.00 for it. Times change ... |
