Piano

Anyone play. I've sat around my whole young life admiring the beauty of the instrument and finally started taking lessons. I practice daily and it's fun realizing how a month ago I couldn't read music but today I played "Jingle Bells" with both hands (really slow).

I don't mind Lisa. To the OP, yep I play a bit, have done since a kid, over 20 years ago. Last year started recording some of the stuff i play, is quite a good process recording, to keep a record of progress, and get a chance to listen from the other side. You pick up stuff that you don't hear whilst playing.

If you need any advise (practise practise practise) if I can help I will.

Many thanks for the advice. My left hand, well rather the right side of the brain is slowly getting it. My instructor tells me that at my stage its not about perfection, it's all about becoming familiar. He told me this because I told him a few weeks ago that I was getting frustrated that I couldn't nail every note with my left hand that I can with my right. After our conversation I relaxed a bit and do realize that I do have my entire life to learn, and its more of a hobby to balance out and aide in relaxation/forgetting after long days at work, soon to be school. Exercise is a great tool for this, but I wanted something else to exercise the brain.

I hated taking lessons when I was young but now I'm glad for it.

I bought my daughter a keyboard from Ion for the iPad a few weeks ago in LA . . .

Now she plays a song in about a week of using the tutorial . .

I never went to the music school but I am glad she uses this modern version . . .

My Dad was a music teacher and a church organist, sadly I've inherited none of those abilities. Sitting in my living room is a beautiful cherry cased Chickering upright, hopefully my 2 year old will put it to good use someday.

I played a long time ago.. took lessons for a while when I was a kid. I'd love to pick it up again sometime but don't have the room for a piano. I would not want an electronic keyboard. We had a piano for a while but sold it when there was no interest to play it anymore. Nowadays I wish I had kept up.

Thank you Joey. Ok here's another, U2. This gets better as it goes along and move up the keyboard. Camera doesn't pick up bass well.

I play. As a child, I hated the lessons, and as an adult, I took more advanced lessons. I can't read music, and I doubt I ever will. I can listen to a piece a few times and get it down with practice.

Because I live in a normal sized home, I have an upright grand. It sounds like you are enjoying the piano. That is great! A beautiful instrument.

Question do others play with their watch on? I usually forget to take it off and I kind of like the feel of the weight anyway - but I worry about shock damage haha any other piano players ever had any issue??

I can tap out a very convincing Micky Mouse Club song. Only thing I can play. Most people look at me like I know what I'm doing but who am I to correct them?

I don't practice at home with my watch on, but I do during lessons. I tried the whole watch at home thing, I just can't get into it. I dunno why.

I know how to play the piano and have a nice keyboard and an old ivory key piano. I play music for my baby every morning during his breakfast. he likes to sit on my lap and play too.

I play a little, for amusement and family only. Reluctantly took lessons when I was younger, and wish I had done more. George Bernard Shaw had it right - youth is wasted on the young.

I remember for about a year I complained about lessons til once I overheard my mother quietly crying in her room after I'd had pulled that 12-year-old stunt.

Changed my life, and after that I chose to love hard work and practice and do things that weren't always fun.

That singular experience of a mother's love has made my success a reality.

As I'm older I can really appreciate and closely detail the learning experience. Nothing short of amazing as I went from knowing zero to actually reading music at an elementary level. I'm now on harmonics and expanding from left and right CDEFG to C and G7 chords. The process is fun as I learn, then play a little short melody. It doesn't require hours upon hours either. Some days it's 15 mins, others its 30-45.

Some very nice playing in this thread.

My four years olds have been taking piano lessons for the past three months. We got them a paino, and my wife and I have decided to learn to play too. This sparked both my mother and my brother to buy pianos and start taking lessons in the past month.

I used to play a great deal. Now I gravitate towards other instruments; however, once you learn the piano, all others are easy--except for the harp!

This is very good to know. I would like to become proficient on the guitar as well.

In that case you have to choose between reading music or using tabs. And I hope you have big hands and long, thin fingers, for to excel on guitar it certainly helps.

I would rather read music so I can put together pieces myself (understand the theory). I have large hands and taught myself "Day Dreamer" by Adele last year.

Hey All,

Piano lessons are still going great. Decided to upgrade my digital weighted piano to the one I receive lessons on, it sounds so much better. I am going to trade my current Yamaha P-85 for it with the studio I train at. Every Saturday I'm in awe of the sound quality and decided that it only made sense to bring the quality home.

Well done Armyguy. It's good to have something nice to play on, more inspiring. Some great electrics out there, but they won't match the feel/sound of an acoustic.

Very true, I traded in for a Roland. Got a pretty good deal, traded my Yamaha for it. FAR superior sound. Comes with a 3 year warranty. Figured if they use it for instruction, then it's good for me.

Here is the New Piano:
