Rolex as a daily wearer AND special occasion/dress watch???

Just wondering if having a Rolex as a daily wearer (or frequent wearer) watch, makes you less inclined to go for that watch for special occasions? In particular sports models like Subs.

I've read lots of posts about subs vs suits, but I specifically wondered if wearing a watch daily, makes it feel less appropriate when you have to smarten up? Your thoughts?

(Question is because I'm looking to buy my first Rolex this year)

I think wearing a Rolex everyday & for special occasions is fine.

My Sub-C is my only watch. It is one of the only watches I can think of that works well in absolutely any situation. I can wear 10 different things and my watch always looks appropriate (to me, haha). It is the beauty of it.

Sure, you could have more watches...but why?

I suspect most will disagree, but yes. I feel less dressed up if I try to wear my "daily" with a suit. This may be because I have had a beautiful watch for 19 yrs with which I dress up.
I am one who feels a Professional-series Rolex in any metal is not appropriate with a suit/tux, but again, may be because I have options as a collector. But if I had "only" one Rolex, I would wear it while dressing up. Although I have outdated notions about "proper" attire, the reality is that only you will give a hoot about what you're wearing under that jacket/shirt sleeve.

That is the reason I settled for a DD and sub for my collection. You would think DD for dresser times and sub for everything else wrong. I have wore the DD while on the water all day and the with a suit.

I wear a Rolex every day (sub or dj), and feel either is appropriate for all forms of dress.

Depends. If I dress up frequently I'd get a nicer dress watch. However if it's only infrequent then I'd stick with the Sub or not wear a watch. Why waste money on buying something you won't use regularly?

Sub and GMT and Exp are great daily beaters but on w/e and special occasions its nice to dress up and wear something a bit dressier and more exclusive like a white Daytona, DJ or gold.

I bet many here have gone somewhere they didnt really want to just so they could wear a certain watch, it certainly makes it less painful!

I wear my DJ daily, but I wear a suit daily. I usually rock it on the weekends but my G Shock gets weekend wrist time as well. Thought about buying another DJ for "special occasions" but have a hard time having 2 DJ. Wish they made a day/date in SS as I am not a YG guy and the platty is a bit over what I am willing to spend on a watch.

My sub is my daily wearer.

I enjoy having it on my wrist as much as possible and the level of enjoyment is independent of what I happen to be wearing.

I only have a DSSD and I think it is appropriate for any attire, swimming or wearing a suit!

I generally don't wear my sub if I'm really dressed up, but I think that's mostly because I have some nice dress watches too. I don't think it matters much because if your suit and shirt are properly cut, your watch usually isn't visible.

If you're going for maximum flexibility and you're set on Rolex, consider the Datejust series. They're just as tough (assuming you're not going diving) and they're perfectly suited for almost any level of dress.

I was at a black tie event recently and of course checking out watches. I wore my TT DJ, but noticed several men in submariners, GMT Pepsi dial. I think these days anything goes.
