Looking for a vintage Rolex...your opinions please
So I am in the beginning faze of looking at a vintage Rolex purchase...I will be getting my first Rolex in a week or two (new sub... Very excited!)... That being said I won't be choosing a vintage sub.....I really like the vintage datejust but wanted your opinions please..I don't want to spend more than 3k if I can help it..I have a bigger wrist so I do not want to get a watch with too small of a dial...any thoughts of models / years? I really appreciate your time and suggestions..Happy New Year everybody!!

It depends on what you wear. You could get a nice vintage 14k or even 18k watch head and put it on a leather strap. There are many out there in your price range. Since the sub is SS you might want a yellow gold Oyster DD. I think they are the most classy vintage for a man's collection and like I said you can buy different color straps to wear with it and if you find a real unique dial it will be a really nice keeper. This is a 72. I think they are a good size.

I have a pretty good sized wrist and enjoy wearing a little larger watch myself, yet in my opinion, the Date I wear (my avatar) from the 70's is a good size for me. I wouldn't want to go any smaller but for the style of watch it is, it's just about right.

You can certainly find a nice vintage DJ for $3K but if you're concerned about the 36mm being too small you may want to look for a GMT. If you keep your eyes peeled you'll occassionally see a reasonable example for $3.8k to $4.0k. It won't be pristine but it will be a good honest watch. A little more than your target but you'll get a 40mm size like your new sub.
