Ceramic bezel install
So the ceramic bezel has been around a few years now. Is RSC still the only one who can install a ceramic bezel with out cracking it? Has anyone seen the press that they use?

I've heard ABC out west has done it a few times but they make you sign off on any damage.

If you have the correct tools and experience then anyone could refit one, but until then its best to leave it to the RSC and to those skilled in ceramic insert replacement.

My watchmaker has the press and kit to install ceramic bezels. He had to beg Rolex to actually get a second press but they finally let him.
The press and specialized tools are needed from Rolex in order to do a proper job. My watchmaker told me he has only had to replace 2 ceramic bezels so far but wanted to be able to do them so he could tackle any job a client may have for him. My watchmaker is rolex certified and has a parts account. |

The tool set with the proper press is quite amazing. It takes so many different tools just to put in one of these bezels its really quite amazing. Next time I am at his office I will see if he will let me take a picture of the press and tools. |

Hi
New to the forum, firstly I'd like to say what a great idea this is for those who appreciate quality timepieves! I have a rolex Sub date , purchased new in 2002; I have not checked the serial number on the watch, but it did come from a reputable dealer, and the information on the guarantee form designates it as a type "16610". I have a couple of questions about it, since Rolex have introduces several upgrades over the years: 1) I assume the watch case is made from the (upgraded) 904L steel, whereas the strap is likely to be the older type (916L or 918L, I forget); is this correct? 2) What material is the bezel of the watch constructed from? The numbers are not recessed, and I guess it's too old to be ceracrom (if that's the correct spelling?); is is ceramic or something else? Many thanks everyone. I have a ton of less specific horological questions to follow at some stage also; relative merits of different types of movements etc. I look forward to learning a lot here! |
