2 Tell the Time -- Or 2 Bling...

So,

-- do we wear ROLEX to tell the time on our wrists ?

OR

-- do we adorn our wrists with jewelry machines which are able to track time?

OR

-- are we wearing/buying ROLEX to send a message ?

If we covet wrist time machines (as we admit) then the difference between the right and wrong time is blamed on.....who.....

We want, we need -- the watch -- our ROLEX (timepiece) to tell the time...or do we? Our inner wishes are that our watches expose our horological prowess to the WIS in/at the boardroom, to present to current & future bosses, girlfriends, --....or do we simply love the fact that this ROLEX will provide inner satisfaction & last a lifetime...!

-- we buy cause we like

OR

--cause we want to impress

OR

--value = last a lifetime which ROLEX does indeed.

I do think it has to do with a lot of factors why we buy a Rolex. Because there are plently of other cheaper watches and some of them could be better looking then a Rolex to tell the time.
But people tend to buy what's in their mind and in their heart.

Your deep sentiment and heartfelt writings confirm my guilt-ed emotions. Thank You. ROLEX remains what I cling to for pure wrist worn horology.

I wear my Rolex to tell the time in a way which I find special.

Other than this forum, I try not to draw attention to my watch. I'd rather have sleeves covering it when the situation allows.

six questions:
yes
yes
no
....I don't blame anyone on wrong time unless it's a warranty issue.
yes, I do like it
no, not to impress
yes, to last a life time.

I like Rolex quality/dependability, design, craftsmanship and history. I don't give a rats behind what people think of my watch choice, but to be honest I appreciate the respect a Rolex commands when they see it on my wrist. However I much prefer for it to go unnoticed. I buy it for me and my needs only, anything else is a by product.

I only wear Rolex for the bling factor and to impress others. I could care less what time it is.

I wear it to prove how special I am to myself...and to convince others that I'm better than they are.

Or maybe it's to tell time.

I can't remember.

I've thought about this a lot of late and I appreciate the OP bringing this forth, however I believe that the true question should be "Are you happy wearing a Rolex?" I will answer that I low wearing a Rolex. Whether is be branding, marketing, for bling, in order to tell time, I am happy wearing my Rolex. I reached a new level of happiness when I learned that my late grandfather wore a Rolex too, with "bling."

I buy watches because I like to have a piece of art and a masterpiece of engineering on my wrist. I couldn't care less what other people think of my choices, I don't do it to try and impress

Same reason we buy nice cars or nice clothes.

Watches are a hobby for most here. What else would we be into? Bird watching?

How many of us actually use sub for diving or Daytona for race timing? It is a piece of jewelry and reasons for why one buys jewelry apply 100% here.

I've used my Sub for diving, GMT for travel, Daytona for race timing (horses), Explorer for hiking. Didn't use my YM for yachting though.

Depends on the person. I have one client that wears a YG DD and is always late to meetings. I joke with him that his DD must have a problem and requires a service.

I think Rolex to most people has become a status symbol. At my advanced age I don't have to impress anyone so I now wear a Grand Seiko as my daily watch. Most non-watch people have no idea what a GS is and just think of it as another inexpensive Seiko.
