Sending a Rolex to RSC

So I've got to send in a watch to the RSC for warranty service and I thought it might be educational for those who haven't gone through the process to log the steps as they happen.

So the victim is a D serial TT 179161 still under warranty.

It is behaving very badly... note the very low amplitude.

Jan 29,2013
I called the Dallas Rolex Service Center at 1-214-871-0500 (your RSC may differ). I asked to be transferred to Customer Service. When CS got on the line, I gave them my name and explained that I had a watch requiring service under warranty and could they please send me a packaging kit to ship my watch to Dallas. They asked for my address and promised to send it ASAP. Now I just have to wait for the packaging kit to arrive. More pics and steps to follow as they happen!

Yup! Right to a T Mike! I think last I recall! When you receive your kit, it must follow every detail. They will reject if you use different paper or tape!! They are very specific on the detail with the kit!! Just FYI!!

-3 seconds a day is still within COSC specifications Ron. However, if you want it to be more accurate you can always have it regulated by a watchmaker (pretty much anybody can do that).

-4/+6 is the COSC spec which your Sub is well within... I certainly wouldn't want to be without my watch/ risk losing it in the mail, or pay the RSC over -3 seconds a day... YMMV

Carl's right. It's just adjusting the microstella screws on the balance wheel. Even Carl can do it.

You don't have to wait for the packaging kit. The RSC will email you the instructions with a form attached that you send along with the package. I have the special brown paper tape and boxes at home anyway. Good luck. I might be sending my Sub-C in for warranty work. It's been running fast. I need to get a better grip on the timing before deciding what to do.

Yes that's how I usually send it as well but I wanted to do it this way for illustration purposes for this thread.

The few times I have had any of mine serviced, I just dropped at the Jewelers and left. I don't even get any paperwork/receipts anymore. It helps when you support your local businesses. I think I put all his kids through college.

Thanks for posting this! I'll be following closely as I have decided to service my 16710 and I'm sure it will need an overhaul at my local RSC (BH I'm assuming from Hawaii).

I had my ad ship it for me. But appreciate this lesson as it unfolds......

Meantime I will be looking at my watch wondering what the amplitude is?

What's the frequency Kenneth?

Ok guys and gals, my LV back from a RSC in Oct. was running 5.75 sec/day fast just within COSC is now at 6.8 sec/day and she is going back for a regulation. I know, I know i'm an_l. But I know full well they can be regulated to +- 2 sec/day very easily and I paid good money for the overhaul.

Update

Got the packaging kit from Rolex last week. Shipped very quickly by RUSA. The kit itself is very well thought out and instructions are simple to follow.

Box as shipped

Actual shipping box inside

Contents - spongy protector, wrist sizing tape, 4x brown paper tape, instructions, USPS Registered Mail form

Instructions are self explanatory and very detailed

PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE WHEN RESPONDING

Packing your watch

Detach and fill out the service request form found in the instructions. Forgot to snap a pic of it but it requires some basic info:
Name
Address
Phone number
Email
Explanation of requested service
Timing info (must know +/- s/d)
Special instructions or questions
Type of service (warranty/paid)

Next put your watch in the protective packaging foam

Place the warranty (if warranted ) and Request form on top of the watch. PHOTOCOPY your warranty before shipping your original!

Extend the sealing flaps on the box, close, and seal with sponge/water

I find the seals never close well

Use three of the supplied paper tapes to properly seal the box

Fill in the declared value (do not get added insurance!) and the to/from addresses

Next stop... the Post!
