Venting/Anyone else experience this?

i purchased a GMT IIc in April of 2012. Overall I have been somewhat disappointed in the service experience from my AD but that is another thread for another time. I only mention it because I am sure it is influencing my opinions about my current problem.

About a month or so ago my watch starting running 2 minutes a day fast. I took it to the AD and he told me that there was nothing wrong with it, including not being magnetized. I brought it home and the same thing kept happening.

I brought it back again and asked if they would please just keep it for a few days and see if they could replicate my issue. Turns out I get a call from the AD telling me that while the watch keeps perfect time most of the time there are periods of time where it starts running up to 1,000 seconds a day fast. It does this for a while according to him and then stops.

My question is whether or not anyone else has experienced or even heard of this before? Any help would be appreciated?

My venting issue is that I am really upset and disappointed about my whole ownership experience. The AD has been rude to my wife when she went to buy the watch, not real pleasant with me regarding resizing issues and kind of indignant when I told them something was wrong. On top of it the GD watch doesn't even work after only 8 months. I am very concerned that while they may send it to Rolex for repair if I am having problems now the warranty will be gone before you know it and I will be stuck with a lemon.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice I am all ears.

Thanks.

Rude staff is not acceptable. Hopefully that is not the owner displaying it.

Never heard of that particular problem but the symptom would explain why the movement tests good at some times and then runs amok at other times (per the numbers he gave you, the movement goes crazy about 11% of the time).

But once RSC repairs it you should be back to normal - and maybe it's time to see what other ADs are in your neck of the woods.

I've never heard of this particular issue. The AD has admitted to the watch having an issue, so ask them to send it into RSC for warranty repairs.

Let us know how it goes. I would also change to a different AD if I were you.

Thanks to you both for the response. The AD even said they had "never heard or seen this issue before" which is kind I freaking me out.

Skip those yahoos and send it to RSC. Needless to say you won't buy from them again. And that's the sweetest revenge.

Well, as with a medical condition I would get a second opinion.

Also, the customer is always right so it sounds like your AD is not running their business very well. I would get the second opinion at the new AD which you will most likely stick with after dumping the other one!!

AD competence is very diverse. As a rule I always prefer to deal with the ounce directly.

Considering you experience rude behavior and not responsive to your complaints, maybe you can call up the owner/manager or someone in the higher position in the store? If this still doesn't work, perhaps you can file a complaint to Rolex HQ in the states against this AD. Rude service is always unacceptable.

Never deal with them again. There are plenty of places that want and deserve your business. That isn't one... Rude to your lady = Unsat.

Don't get discouraged. These things happen and it will get sorted.

No need to use that lousy AD.

Call a RSC. They will send you packaging to send the watch. Kilyung / Mike above has published a thread showing how to send the watch to the RSC.

Any AD that's rude to the wife, I would never deal with. Find a new AD, hope it is't Tourneau. Like Mike said send it direct.

I have never seen a watch all of the sudden go 1000's of seconds fast out of nowhere. If its still under warranty just send it to RSC your self. Once they fix it it will be fine.

I believe there is a Rolex Service Training Center in Lititz, Pa. and I've heard they sometimes handle repairs as well. It may actually be a RSC on the DL. At any rate, if you're anywhere near them, take it in and see what they say...the watch masters there should love a good challenge.

As others have said, step foot in that AD again. You don't need to go through the AD to obtain warranty service if the watch is still under initial warranty from Rolex. Call a RSC and ship directly to them.

RSC, no question. A Rolex has a lot of moving parts and even as new something may be amiss. I think it might be a tiny drop of oil on the hair spring causing the intermittent accuracy issue but its just a theory. The RSC will sort you

Thanks everyone for the response. Unfortunately the AD was a torneau. There is AD is definitely on the outs.

Should I be concerned about the fact that I have such a unique issue this early into ownership? I think that is my bigger concern.

Torneau was your problem not Rolex. They may be completely off in their diagnosis too. Send it the RSC directly and let them sort it out. Remember these watches are purely mechanical, it's just gears and stuff, so you don't have electrical gremlins like on a car or something. Chances are a gear is messed up or something isn't meshing right in there or the hairspring is messed up: either way Rolex will take care of it. They'll stand by their product, Torneau on the other hand, they'll wait for the next tourist they can trap.

You missed the signal when you proceeded with a purchase from a retailer who was rude to your wife...Good ADs earn the markups they charge. Start by identifying an AD you trust, work with her/him to get this problem squared away, and continue purchasing from her/him as long as your trust continues to be earned.

Sorry about your issue. Tourneau not real popular around here.

RSC for sure.

One of the reasons I know longer will use an Ad. RSC Dallas is great as are many sellers here and in the 2nd hand market. IMHO everyone one should go the Ad route one time. I have four times and three out of four was good. But it only takes one time to go "holy crap" I ain't doing that again.

Best advice.

And I would go out of my way to tell them that they won't be getting any of my hard earned $$$$ anymore.

Unfortunately I wasn't there when he was rude or I would not have stood for it. It was when she went in tinpurchase the watch as it was an anniversary gift. Believe me, mistreating my wife or kids is a cardinal son in my book.

Why stress about the AD when there are many and your warranty will still work? Now for the real issue... Send your piece to RSC and it will be returned working properly in a few weeks!

Well that explains it. Geez. Another rude sales staff horror story from Turd-neau.

How do they stay in Business? Straight to the RSC. Call Rolex USA to complain. If anybody should be losing their AD status it should be them. Do they have in house staff training on how to be snooty, condescending, unknowledgable, arrogant, aloof and rude?

Hope all works out for you. Sorry you had to go through this.

I would agree with that and a very very simple fix.

Would you trust the bloke who sold you your car to work on the brakes of your car? Nope, me neither.

It's a service issue therefore send it to the RSC; problem sorted.

Thanks to everyone for getting back to me. As said before, there is really no threat of me ever using that AD again. My larger concern was the fact that the watch isn't working this early into my ownership and my fear that I may have a lemon on my hands. It seems though that everyone is of the opinion that it really isn't a big deal and to relax a little bit.

It is going off to RSC today and I will keep you posted.

Thanks again.
