I normally work at a computer from behind a desk. Occasionally, I have to install equipment while working in tight spaces. Any watch that I would wear is guaranteed to get banged up. Naturally, I take off the Rolex whenever I'm working in equipment racks, cable chases, or under a raised floor. The problem is that I feel totally naked without a watch. I also need to know the time when I'm working.

I'm looking for an inexpensive watch that I wouldn't care if it got scratched up while working under these conditions. I hate digital watches, so it must be analog. I would prefer a leather or metal strap, as opposed to a rubber one. It also needs to be self winding, because a battery powered one would die without me knowing until I needed it. It only needs to tell time.

Any suggestions for a $100 or less, somewhat rugged work watch?

My vote would be for a solar-powered GShock, which is what I use for working on farm equipment. I too feel lost without a watch. Don't know if they make any that don't have a digital display, but at least you don't need to worry about batteries. I store mine on a windowsill, often for months at a time.

some models of G Shock watches are actually cool and functional...

Pre-owned luminox. It has lots of wrist presence for a quartz watch, the band is comfortable, there are plenty of color/size choice, and the dial has tritium tubes...

Get seiko, there are many less than $100. Or otherwise get casio.
Im using a $25 casio for my daily work, swim, sauna, spa, jogging fishing, and other activities and its been working fine for 4 yrs

I wear a G-Shock when engaging in my other hobby which involves a lot of recoil energy into the hands, elbows and shoulders. I posit that the SD would be OK but why take a chance?

I picked up a SEIKO SNDA57p1 for work and couldn't be more happy. Got it for $160 and the quality alone suggests double or even triple that price. Plus the watch is a true military pedigree quartz chronograph... The older versions were issued and I believe the Brits currently issue this watch to some.

I typically leave my work watches in my office under lock and key. After a weekend on not wearing the watch I got tired of having to re-set my SXK007 on my Monday. Add the fact there's no manual wind capability to the SKX007 watch which made it even more inconvenient.
