My modest collection
I started this collection 8 years ago with purchases/gifts in the following order:
Sub SS Daytona IWC Panerai 241 (this year) I can't believe it took me this long to find a Rolex forum |

Welcome, I love the power reserve Panerai, the power reserve is something that I have always wondered how it displays after wearing it for a day, can you take it from zero to full power reserve by wearing it for one day?
Really nice collection |

Nicely understated.
The Daytona is a particularly fine example of the 16520.

Sure, I can take a pic of the Panny. When you say "a day", how many hours are you looking for? I'll try to do this over the weekend as I'm travelling today. *edit* Also wanted to add these two shots: |

Orisky, you are the answer to a prayer.I've been looking for decent comparison shots of Rolex next to Panerai for ages and you've provided some great close ups.....superb to see the PAM 241 so close to a Sub and Daytona.....really brings out the relative strengths of each watch.
Just love that 241 and the hobnail pattern is so distinctive. My favourite PAM of the moment (and its only 40mm). How does it wear compared to the Sub ? Does yours have the easy strap release buttons on the side ? If so are they that easy to work ? Can you relay any other comparisons between Rolex and Panerai ie comfort, value for money, quality of finish etc ? Great collection !!!!!!!!!!! |

Great collection. Congrats on some fine watches, especially the Zenith Daytona.
Of course, I'm a little biased:

Wow, lots of questions there, but let me give it a shot. Keep in mind while I'm a technical person on other fronts, I really don't know much about the internals of a watch. So my answers will not be technical. First, even though both the Daytona and the PAM are 40mm cases, the PAM looks bigger as it has a bigger face, no bezel. And even though it has a gator band, it feels heavier than the metal banded daytona. This could be because the PAM is a thicker watch. I specifically bought this model because of the hobnail dial, it's also limited to 800, so there's some uniqueness in it as well. Yes, this one has the "easy strap" known as a deployant. I love it, works great. All of these watches are very comfortable and wear nicely. As for conversational pieces, the PAM and the Daytona get the most looks, I think for obvious reasons. PAMs have been very hot over the last couple of years. I think the unique styling has alot of people (and celebrities) interested. The SS Daytona, not much else to say there. I'm just very lucky my wife picked it up for me as our wedding gift. The Sub was my first "fine" timepiece, unless you can consider a Tag SEL fine? After buying the IWC, I actually gave the Sub to my dad for several years. He unfortunately passed away this year so now the Sub has very much sentimental value to me and will never be sold. Comfort? They are all comfortable, but the Sub, Daytona and Panerai have a heavier and IMO better quality feel. Value for money? hmm...I think this is a very personal question (not personal in that I don't want to answer, but personal in that everyone has their own opinion on what's worth it or not :) ) All my watches are worth the money, even the $15 timex I use for jogging *edit* let me add one more thing. I just came back from a week long trip to Maui and I opted to take the Daytona instead of the PAM if that tells you anything Hope that helps |

I hope by the end of 2008 my collection will look vaugely similar to yours.......two Rolex, one Panerai and one other (Omega). Your PAM 241 looks such a great watch. I've only seen it in the Panerai catalogue before your photos came along. It has been so useful to see it next to your Sub. I hadnt realised that only 800 are produced each year. Looks like I'll have to put a deposit down at my local AD. Thanks again for the quick response. |

Thats more than just a modest collection, that is an amazing collection! Absolutely stunning. You have two legendary Rolexes, one beautiful Panerai, and a striking IWC.
