G Shock watches

I see a lot of people talking about having G Shock as additions to their collections. What is the lure of the G Shock watch? Is it just a nice watch to wear when you're worried you may damage your more expensive watches?

Bingo. In a way, I see them as a spiritual successor to Rolex's sports watches of the 60s and 70s, same kind of philosophy

They are robust, accurate, come with lots of useful functions and compared to a Rolex, relatively inexpensive.

just a cool watch to own that is pretty cheap. and you can beat the **** out of it with a hammer or run over it with a car. They have great water resistance and tons of cool features. They keep multiple timezones and some you can even store data like phone numbers.

i have a new g shock 6900 aa that pairs to my iPhone. it allows me to page my phone if i have misplaced it and my phone will start to play an MP3 that i have programmed. or if ever i am out and leave my phone some where and walk to far away my watch will vibrate. the watch also vibrates to alert me of calls, texts and emails. pretty cool for 200 dollars

I don't have one but...

I did own a $15.99 (Armitron) digital watch at one point a few years ago. Only wore it when I rode my Motorcycle.

I figured if went down....why take out the watch too.
It might cost less to fix the bike, than the thousands of dollars to replace the watch.

NOW luckily after owning a Ducati Monster for 3 years....never fell.

Bike is gone...and now my 3 year old son plays with the watch...he like making the light come on

As an authorized Casio G-Shock dealer, I can tell you one thing.....I carry about 80 G-shocks in my store at all time....I sell about 8-10 per week....they range from $100-$360(aviator series)....most of my clients end up being cops, firefighters, construction workers, mechanics, divers, and just random people who love to have a watch they don't have to worry about....and they are trendy....come in various different colors....my Brazilian clients love the red and orange models.....I personally have two myself along with my high-end watches....it's just a tension free watch to have....and serves multiple purposes....from alarm, chronograph functions, day/date, to dual time zones on some of them.

I enjoy wearing my G Shock just as much as wearing a $7000 mechanical watch, maybe even more since I don't have to worry about it.

I bought one twenty years ago and it was my everyday watch for four years until I got a sub. It remained with me for many years after that. It is currently missing and I miss it. I have many other watches now so I can do without it. It was a tough and reliable digital and I would agree with another members comment that they are or were the alpha digital watch years ago and may still be today. You cannot beat the price, reliability, and durability of the G-Shock.

I engage in a hobby that induces massive shocks and forces to the hands, arms, and shoulders. I wear a G-Shock when doing so. Maybe the Rolexes could take it but why find out the hard way?

I wouldnt wear a Casio in highschool and I wont start now. I think they are hideous looking with their tiny screen encrusted in plastic. Suunto is my perferded ABC watch.

Never seen the appeal tbh.

Hamilton Khaki field automatic and Seiko/citizen automatics especially the monster would be my choice if I wanted a beater.

Lots of watches under £200 there that will do the job of a beater without needing to go digital.

Atomic Time, Tough Solar... Wear it and forget it.

Takes a beating and not go..."Oooooooooooooh S*************t I just scratched, dinged, nicked my $xx,xxx SS watch" and then log into TRF to vent what just happened....

Mine says Hello from the deep end

I guess you could say I'm a fan:

Most of mine are LEs that I'm not terribly inclined to beat the snot out of, but they could take it all the same. Personally speaking, I think every collection should include at least one of these brutes.

On the wrist today:

My latest:

Love 'em!

It's a great casual watch. Mine has been with me on a ton of vacations and in the warm waters of Costa Rica to the freezing waters of Alaska. The thing is a tank. It's solar so I don't need a battery and atomic so I don't have to worry about setting it. Changing time zones? Just 1 button and it's set. Not bad for $110.

And my wife's Baby-G has been tough as nails as well.

I think I want one. I'm wearing my new GMT all week since I just got it but I don't want to wear it now when I'm doing work around the house. Found myself wearing an old watch I had in my mid-20's. Something like the G-Shock might work.

They're not going to win any beauty contests, but they're Bulletproof with a capital B, and sometimes that's what you need.
