216570 for 114060? A "should I?" post?
Yeah... I told myself I'd never do it, and I've gone days, even other social media formats, and some of you even got a text.... Short of flipping a coin, my last resort will have to be TRF.
Should I? Had opportunity to get a 216570(Explorer II 42mm Blk). This watch had my eye for a long ways back when they introduced at Basel. I had always been a Sub/SD guy, but always had a special place in my heart for the famed 1655("McQueen" Explorer). That orange hand. Wow. I can't get over it. Then they made it 42mm and made the case better/etc. You get the point. Then I saw the 114060 in person. Made the decision. Had to have it shortly down the road after Rolex released it at Basel. It's gorgeous. I love it. Probably my favorite of the dive watches "so far". I would have to give up my 114060 to acquire this beautiful Explorer(wife's orders) I know it's lame, but what do you all think? Wrist shots to compare. |

They are both great watches so flip a coin to see which one is the lucky one.

imho, the exp2 is the better choice as far as watches go. but the nd sub is a must have for a rolex tool watch wis at some point in their life.

Oh god. I don't know what to tell you on this one brother. I just picked up my 216570 black this week and I couldn't imagin losing my Sub C 116610LN. Is there any chance down the road you might be able to get your wife to alow you to have both? This may require some buttering up...

I 'need' the date, so the Explorer wins it for me

Explorer is great but the sub is an icon. I would not give it up. Save up and get the exp later.

If the Sub is your only Sub, don't flip for an ExpII.

I say get the ExpII. The obsessing will not go away until you give in (I know how it is).
It's one sweet watch, and if later on you decide you made a mistake then it can easily be reversed. I love the ND as well, but the 216570 seems to be where you're at. |

I like the ND and nearly got one, but since I have a Sub date it seemed redundant, that and I haven't really warmed to the new case yet. Get the EXP2, I did. For me it's best of the new Rolexes and features all of the new movement enhancements.

I am assuming your wife wisely do not want you to overspend at the expense of your finances. So my suggestion, keep the Sub, start saving for the Explorer II and buy it later.

I am a Sub for life, however in your situation I would flip it. You can always go back. Or flip the Sub, and use the funds to buy a used 14060 and ExpII. If you present two for the price of one the wife will be happy. OR, flip it, get a used explorer and a used watch for your wife.

How about getting the Explorer II and then picking up a 14060 down the road? It would be a lot less coin than the 114060, and still have the look!

I don't think you can go wrong either way....they are both classics and both look amazing..I think it's a tough decision but if you can work something out to have both even if its down the road I would do it...

Anyway here is one mans accounts... Even my students love the 216570! Brought both my 1655 and my 216570 into class a few months ago to discuss the history of both and they loved the abstract nature of the ORANGE HAND!!! To be honest if the 1655 is what you want just hold off on doing anything and wait until the proper funds have been raised to find yourself a mint example! To me there is no other Rolex timepiece like the Freccione! Peace!

I just voted dont trade but did it in a hurry.., i thought u were going to trade your 216570 for a sub nd.., turns out its the other way around. Do it! You wont regret it. The 216570 imho is going to be a real classic.
The exp looks way better on your wrist |

I also love the 1655. I purchased the Sub Date and love the watch but recently purchased 216570. If you cannot buy both and the 1655 is one of your "grail" watches and you don't see a 1655 purchase in the near future, get the 216570.
If the 216570 was available when I purchased the sub, I probably would not own the sub today. The 114060 is perfect in many respects but I think it is so different from the 216570 that one or the other should speak to you. |

Both are beautiful. But it's the 114060 for me, and it's not close.
