Is it ok to wear a watch better than my Boss?
I am always caught in this. ..
Sometimes I try to hide my Daytona or Bluesy under my cuff during meetings with my Boss. With Clients, I am happy to flaunt it as they don't mind. Not sure what do you guys think? |

Depends on your culture and the personality of your boss.

Depends on your boss, but I'd take it off when you're asking him or her for a raise...

Funny. This happens to me too! My boss wears a sub and a explorer II (old polar version). When I'm wearing my sub/DJII I'm fine, but the days I want to sport my AP 15400, PP Aquanaut or others I try and hide these when meeting with my boss. At client meetings it's also a little hit and miss.

Flaunting it, if that's what your doing is a problem no matter what.
If your just joking, then it really depends on your boss and if he really notices those kind of things or not. When you work for somebody else almost everything depends on what they are like and what matters to them. Yes, it could most certainly be an issue.

Have to agree why should the boss be interested in what ever watch his employee was wearing,I am sure he employed the person and not the watch.Does wearing a Rolex or any other watch make you a better employee I would doubt it.

well i am not sure if he notices. he wears a SD, but i am not sure if he is a WIS (and i dunno if he has other watches but at his level i am not surprised if the SD is his CHEAPEST watch) and i wouldnt dare to ask him to let me see his watch.
i am not sure if he notices i change my watch everyday, i think no one in the office does that except me. well i am no snob but i just enjoy my rolexes and love to wear the one that goes with my attire and mood. but i tend to be sensitive with pple around me. i work hard and save for my watches and did not buy the entire collection overnight. |

I'm confused If you had said "Is it safe to wear a watch better than my Boss?"
Well then I know the answer to that one. |

Everyone spends their money differently. Perhaps you choose a nice watch and he chooses a high-end vehicle... As has been mentioned, don't flaunt it and there shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think my boss even wears a watch or cares for that matter. Wear whatever you prefer. Most people don't even notice what watch you are wearing. My watch was purchased long before I started working for the company I'm employed at now. It's none of his business how I spend my money. We all have our preferences on how we spend any disposable income we may have.

of course it is! If he is your boss then he should technically have more money than you so if he doesn't choose to spend it on watches thats his business.
Its strange to see what people spend their money on. I dated a girl in high school who's dad was the head of some hedge fund and was a multi millionaire. Had a house that you wouldn't believe in basically beverly hills of the east coast. He drove a mini van because he just didn't care what he drove. Same thing with watches. I know a lot of VERY well off people who wear fossils not because they are cheap, but because they just don't give it any thought. |

I have been wearing better watches than my boss, peers or subordinates for the better part of 30 years.
No one cares or notices what you wear.

That's why I like my 36mm Expy - flies under the radar; no one here has ever asked about it. It's the only watch I wear to the office.

Most people don't care or notice, unless you are flaunting it in his face. I have people reporting to me and I for one won't mind if my employees wear better watches than me to work. It's their money and how they choose to spend it. I am more concerned about their work performance than what they wear, though now that I am a WISer, I probably will asked them to remove to check it out .
I actually just recently gave one of my employee a new watch as recognition for ten years of service, a very nice Tag Calibre 16 Chrono. So in other words, just wear what you want without being self-conscious. |

Yeah, i'd have to say that most bosses probably wouldn't even notice.
I think I probably wear one of the nicest watch in the whole of my firm, let alone one better than my boss. Don't think anyone notices. But of course, if you deliberately flaunt it, then I'm sure it wont be just your boss who will have a problem with that! |

If your boss is into watches, then I'd say tread lightly. If he has no clue, then wear whatever you want.

If your boss notices it.....yes, it's a bad idea. Especially bad if he has an 'A' type personality...they don't like being in 2nd place.

I wear better suits, better watches, drive a better car, and own a nicer house than my boss....note to self, once I get married, don't get divorced.

I do and I'm conscience of it every time I'm around him. It absolutely shocks me that others wouldn't be. True, not everyone would noticed, but then again, we are talking about the most recognizable watch brand in the world. Whether you like it or not, it rubs A LOT of people the wrong way. That is fact... and I'm not entirely comfortable with that which is why I try to keep it low key.

If my boss noticed my watch but he wears a $15 watch bought at the local drug store, what am I supposed to do... go to the dollar store and try to find something cheaper? As long as your not flaunting it and shoving it in his face.. its absolutely none of his business how you spend your own money on a wristwatch. |

Depends on your bosses attitude and personality. Some bosses are great and some, not so tolerant of these things. Play it by ear.
