This is funny.. and cute
So I teach Junior High School to a bunch of really outstanding kids. My first year students we call them here (7th graders back home) are just getting into English and have me as their native English Teacher. It is a blast.
Anyway I gave them a writing/skit assignment where they had to prepare a written skit to be performed later in front of the class, all in English. The theme was "going shopping." So I am proofreading these two 12 year old boy's papers and I just cracked up.. See Below. Let me translate. The red pen is my corrections. One boy is a customer and one boy is sales clerk. Oh! I have got refresh. ( A type of breath mint here.) Yes, You have very very nice breath. Suddenly I am from Fukuoka. Me too. Oh you are a good friend. Can I help you? What are you looking I'm looking for Lorex (Rolex) What color do you want I want a golden (gold) Sorry here is no golden (gold) Lorex (Rolex.) Then do you have gucchis bag? oh, yes. They had no idea that their teacher was a WIS! Cute.. |

I like the fact that since he could not find a golden Rolex, he settled for Gucci bag

The kid already has expensive tastes! Better tell him he needs to do well in school so he can fund his expensive tastes.

Gaijin I got a question for you. In English we have the letter L and in Japanese they have an L - Laa Lee Loo etc so why are they taught to use an R when translating an L into English as both languages can pronounce the letter L?

It is much easier for Japanese to pronounce the L sound then the R.
For example when they say rice it often sounds like lice. It is a constant struggle with my students to pronounce R words corectly. So they just often write with an L rather than and R as that is what it sounds like to them when listening to Japanese English speakers. |
