Hi All,
I am looking for an original crystal for my watch. I don't know if anyone remembers that it was changed by my jeweler because it was scratched. I can't locate the original one that was returned to me. How do I go about locating one?
Thanks so much!!

You could post a WTB on TRF and VRF for an original Superdome crystal.

I remember you well. Your find is probably worth 200k plus on the conservative side. Have you not replaced the wrongly fit safire crystal? Your main goal IMO should be to preserve the dail. You can do that with the proper Rolex plastic service crystal. If you planning on showing the watch and wanting to show it in original configuration, then try contacting very high end dealers to see if they can source you a origianal tropic 39 crystal. The problem is that most nos 39 crystals sold as Rolex are fake. Have you been wearing the watch?
It is a beauty.

I remember this watch and all of the drama it caused. I had just started searching for my first Rolex at about that time. If I recall the thread was closed.

Gene, touch base with Beau or Dalton at ABC Watchwerks, Bob Ridley at Watchmakers international, or Riki Dietel at Time Care inc.. One of them will be able to assist you in getting a crystal for your watch.

On another note, sure would love to know what happened after march 2011 with your watch. I'll be honest, I'm nosey and loved the fact you needed up with a 200k watch for $350 at a police auction. Dude I was so pulling for you, I hope it all worked out.

Absolutely - this was a fascinating read without much of a conclusion although I understand the find was eventually verified as a 'good' one (slight understatement). Given the traffic towards the end of the original thread though I wonder if this will be a common perspective? I for one would very much appreciate some quality photos of the watch.

As I recall, this watch was talked about at great length several years ago when it originally surfaced, and at that time there was a lot of wild speculation about astronomical values, as is already beginning again here. This is an unusual variant of an early Sea Dweller, to be sure, but it will be a long, hard road for someone who has their heart set on anything near the $200,000 neighborhood, I'm afraid. In fact, I'm willing to bet that is why the original poster still owns this watch several years after buying it for a pittance at a police auction-- not because of any strong interest in the history of Rolex sport watches.

Freaking A, even so I wanna see that bad boy cleaned up in his Sunday best. $20K or $200K, I could care less. I just wanna see it!!!! This was the post that drove me back to the forum over and over again. Before I realized it, I was hooked on vintage Rolex and the journey was afoot!!

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't think you are going to get what you are after here. This thread has nothing to do with love of Rolex, restoration or preservation of historical watches, or even with replacement crystals. It has to do with profit maximizing, and I can assure you that this watch hasn't seen any wrist time since its most recent discovery. But, keep your eyes peeled the next time you are cruising around Staten Island, and you never know . . .

DRSD MK0 Prototype dial

Here is the final pic of it all cleaned up!
Matching hands and pearl, brand new NOS #39 superdome and 285 endlinks with 9315 patent pending bracelet.
The owner seems to be happy with it!
